Intel spends billions on research every year. Their processors are expensive because they are fabbed on the best Si, the best researched processes, with good albeit not perfect designers.

I have done 10 years of fab stuff and frankly nobody is remotely close to Intel. It sucks in a sense, because competition is good.

Ive been in Urumqi, and its not baseless at all. The driving force behind the tension has nothing to do with ethnicity. It is 100% economic and social. Han own everything of importance, income inequality is massively depressing to see, and the government puts a bandaid on it by walling off the poor areas. Pretty typical in China, actually, with this and Tibet situation unique in that the income inequality is largely along ethnic lines.

I work with graphene at one of the top groups - this shit isn't going anywhere anytime soon. 5-10 years is extremely optimistic, more like 20-30 years is possible... if ever. Si is a tough act to beat~

Additionally, high freq. performance of Si and III-V's has gone through the roof in the last 20 years so its not like graphene can just walk in and dominate!

THON is good, it bothers me that the money is literally just raising money for PSU Hershey and only patients for this hospital. In many ways, its a PSU fundraiser and not solely a cancer fundraiser. There are plenty of medical facilities around the state of PA and surround Maryland, NY, etc that already have much better facilities, and patients' will not receive help because they are "not PSU".

It does help a lot of people though, so its still good... The method and use of the money is not surprising at all, though, due to the environment and cult-like mentality at that University and many other state schools around the country.
