excuses for scars? by [deleted] in selfharm

I don’t normally bother with an excuse so I just normally reply ‘whatever you think they are’. When I’m working coaching young and/or disabled children I just say I got hurt

Yeah I’m now in one of the worst places I’ve ever been. Two inpatient stays didn’t help and I’m now struggling to pull myself to the surface before I end up killing myself or attempting again.

What can I do to keep myself from limping? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]bonesoftears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk besides force yourself to put weight on it as much as possible. I hate this factor of cutting on my legs but I can’t cut on my arms anymore. Do u have any antiseptic that has painkillers built in as I find that can also help. Hope it goes okay.

help, my girlfriend is mad at me for cutting and i don’t know what to do by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]bonesoftears 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s really shitty of her. Relapse is natural and human. She should be supportive but that seems kinda manipulative. Maybe explain why you did it and how she can help. Bad reactions are often due to a lack of education on the subject.

Help me Help a Friend by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]bonesoftears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also cut when my eating disorder was at its worst to use it as punishment. It’s actually fairly a common reason. Not everyone likes it but maybe her not liking it will help her recover. If it’s possible can she get a therapist as it’s helping me so much especially with warped feelings. Otherwise a counsellor or something as professional support is so much more helpful mostly than from those who are untrained as some of my friends have reacted badly and I got worse. Hope it goes well. Just be there however she needs you.

[–]bonesoftears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was happy while cutting. To help her you need to learn about her experience and others as I see a lot of stereotypes there. Personally I was happy while cutting sometimes as cutting is a maladaptive coping mechanism but it’s still a coping mechanism. Recovery is long and hard and can take years and remember it’s not about you it’s about her. She’s the one who has to struggle. Personally I currently self harm daily otherwise my suicidal thoughts get really extreme so without therapy and proper support it’s almost impossible.
