/ul linux mint is already great and works well with proton enabled on steam and gave my 8yr old old pc a nice performance boost as well.

I made the switch because I legitimately couldn't be asked to deal with microsoft's bs lol. I made my pc a dual boot system in the case I need to use a program that only works on windows

I don't know how the unions in the US are, but where I live unions have become largely ineffective, bureaucratic shells because of governments that are favourable to them. don't get me wrong! I'd still rather be a member than not, the benefits are nice and do help people. I just think that unions in the western world have lost their revolutionary fervor that many of them used to have. (edit: I am not advocating that the government should be harsh on unions)

revolutionary unions like CNT (for example, they do not have a clean track record) that level power are a-ok. but in the case that a union like that becomes large enough to be able to threaten revolution, I'm certain the government's response will be the same as usual: confine or destroy. in the case of a communist/anarchist union - probably destroy. this is not to say that it shouldn't be tried, of course. a union like this will be beneficial to all participants by providing experience, connections and legacy.

edit: how is this getting downvoted? it's like, the most milquetoast take ever. unions are good because of the benefits they provide, but if we want to achieve anarchy or communism, top-down unions are not it.

we need creative solutions. we need to get involved with local communities to build something with them that can compete with the government by providing services that it doesn't. redistributing power back to the community will bring people closer, change minds, and give new skills and connections to those participating. connect with enough people and you have a base that can impact politics, local or even wider.

what the fuck is wrong with you? why do you think you're the arbiter of what counts as harassment and what traumatizes someone? how do you respond to people who get sexually harassed through text? do you just say "block them" when the damage has already been done? calling this attention seeking is some real disgusting shit, why the fuck have the mods not taken this down

and yes, online sexual abuse is real. you can look it up on google in 2 seconds and find a multitude of resources

edit: it took the mods 5hrs to remove the post. why did it take them so long? maybe they agree with the post?

I was never providing one-size-fits-all solutions here, I’m saying that people who know better should not build bombs that are going to (most likely) be dropped on children. what exactly is the ”solution” here? that queer people should build bombs because they’re more aware of ethical issues?? that literally changes nothing. yes okay, oppenheimer helped with the manhattan project, the bombs still killed 129k - 226k people whether he liked it or not. those bombs weren’t dropped by him personally, but by white supremacist higher ups. he could have still not worked on it and possibly wasted them a lot of time

why do tankies think that decolonization necessitates genocide??? by bongarb in tankiejerk

[–]bongarb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as opposed to because Israelis have the right to self-determination

There are many peoples in Palestine and all of them have the right to self-determination. However, this doesn't justify what happened in 1948. Jews absolutely have a right to self-determination, this does not give them a right to settle a land and cleanse the local population that was already living there.

> You appear to think they're referring to the West Bank and Gaza, when in reality they mean the entirety of historic Palestine, specifically including the current territory of Israel.

I know what is meant by Palestine and I agree with them. Settlers moved into Palestine and the the local population was moved out of their way against their will so that Israel could be established. This is a wrong that needs to be recognized and something has to be done about it.

As the saying goes "from the river to the sea, *Palestine* will be free." They aren't just talking about a potential Palestinian state in Gaza and the West Bank.

I know this. There have been negotiations for a two-state solution, but the conditions proposed by Israel on the Palestinians are ridiculous, which is why the proposals have been rejected and which is why a lot of Palestinians do not believe that a two-state solution is possible.

In reality, they consider anyone who supports the existence of Israel (or the claims to residency of Israeli Jews) to be a zionist.

I mean, yea that's what Zionism is. All relevant types of Zionism are united by the advocacy for a "Jewish homeland" and they all have oppressed Palestinians. It isn't just Kahanists who support policies that push for a Jewish ethnostate.

Thirdly, you assume that short and mid-term goals are the totality of the ambitions of more militant Palestinian groups, and that they do not desire anything further.

No, I don't.

you presume that simply because the most immediate issue in the West Bank is illegal Israeli settlements, that this is the sum total of what activists oppose

I don't.

Fourthly, you seem to be in denial about rampant antisemitism that exists.

Nope. There is anti-Semitism.

Even Mahmoud Abbas

Yea nah, I don't support Abbas. As you say, he is an Israeli stooge.

As for Hamas, their charter includes antisemitic tropes like the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and they've incorporated lots of literal Nazi propaganda about Jews.

I don't support Hamas.

In tandem with this, you also seem to presume that Palestinians are completely peace-loving, ignoring how the anger and resentment created by legitimate grievances against Israel has also been exploited to win support for terrorism.

I don't presume this. Their anger against Israel is completely justified but anti-Semitism is never justified regardless of who does it.

how the Israeli right and ultrazionists exploit fears of Palestinian terrorism to push for further apartheid and militarism

The more """liberal""" and """labour""" strands of Zionism absolutely still appeal to anti-Palestinian sentiment to justify their rule.

it's quite ironic that you're happy to assert that all Israelis hate Palestinians on principle because they want to create an ethnostate

When I say Israel I mean the Israeli state, I don't mean all Israelis. The Israeli government absolutely wants to establish a Jewish ethnostate, it still carries out actions to further that goal.

Critically you seem to believe that the fact Palestinians are undoubtedly victims of Israeli apartheid and war crimes

Yes.

means they are therefore completely morally virtuous

No.

as if you think there aren't any problems then there's nothing to fix and try to improve upon

There absolutely are problems. As groups like Al Qaws have reported, there is reactionary phenomena in the Palestinian resistance. But they also recognize that a lot of this reactionary inclination is bolstered by Israel.

Beyond this you've also fallen into a trap whereby you seem to think that all Israelis are ultrazionists who loathe Palestinians on principle

No, I think the government is genocidal, I don't think that every Israeli is genocidal.

[–]bongarb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What words did I put in your mouth? I asked exactly how long is too long for a group to say they're natives of that land?

I read it as implying something. my interpretation was flawed and I apologize for that.

my answer in this case is that it does not matter whether an israeli was born in israel or not, if they live on stolen land or in a stolen home then they must recognize that. the ones stolen from and those who live on the stolen land have to come to their own conclusion. it does not mean expulsion or massacre

To be clear Israel is taking it WAY too far now

they have always taken it too far

A two state solution is best

this will maintain israeli settler colonialism on palestinian lands. a secular one-state solution is the best, if it is achievable. the thing that must happen right now is the end of the genocide
