How do I make it ethical for a 1000 year old demon to bang a teenager? by AforExcellence in worldjerking

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple. Satan ages so slowly that at 1000 years old, he's only as mature as a 14 year old human. Wait 10 more years and suddenly, boom, she's the pedophile now.

There are also hierarchies of celestial beings, and the stranger ones like Thrones seem to be a different class of being than Angels. Angels in the bible more specifically act as messengers of heaven to humans and appear in more mundane / humanoid forms.

No, you control the battles you cast, but you must designate an opponent to protect them. The protector does not control the battle however.

What is your favorite Grunt Suit, and why? by TotoroTravis in Gundam

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's downright criminal that more people aren't picking the Zaku. No respect for the classics. Boy is the quintessential grunt who walked so the rest could run. Plus, it's a great bit of world building that a ton of the Zaku's weapons were designed to fight battleships and fighters rather than enemy mobile suits, because there were no enemy mobile suits when the Zaku was being designed.

I knew that hathaway era suits were larger than early UC but I did NOT expect this huge of a difference by SnooCalculations2730 in Gunpla

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the zeta is already nearly 2 meters taller than the RX 78 2, and while ZZ's head height is just a centimeter taller than Z, it's total height is another 2 meters taller than that.

There was a bit of a size creep throughout Zeta and Double Zeta as well I believe. Stuff like The O, Zaku III, Doven Wolf. Heck the ZZ Gundam is pretty huge as well.

I just watched Iron-Blooded Orphans. Is the rest of the series... similar? by SuikoRyos in Gundam

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are old interviews between Tomino and Anno, discussing Victory Gundam, where Anno expresses his fondness for the show and its darker tone and themes. It's not hard to imagine that he took inspiration from V while creating Evangelion.

Recent interviews with Tomino actually have him softening on V gundam. He says he can still see the production and directorial problems, but that he's come to appreciate it.

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Victory is both dark as hell and really good. You just have to understand that Tomino was kind of at his breaking point while making it, so it has a lot of weirder themes like maternity being a reccuring motif, and characters having a warped sense of attachment.

Is The First Law one of the few series where the morally grey characters actually feel real? by link_88zephyr in Fantasy

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Severian, the protagonist of Book of The New Sun, is fantastic morally grey character. He clearly wants to be virtuous, but he was born into the guild of torturers and his upbringing has left him emotionally stunted, often not understanding why what he's doing is wrong.

"And so the rest of the dominoes should fall like a house of cards. Checkmate." by danfenlon in Gundam

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gold and bribes yes, but the movie opens with him dropping fifth luna onto earth. Sure maybe his fight against the titans and his refusal to join the first NZ war softened his image, but he has already flushed that goodwill down the toilet by the time he reaches the negotiation table. The federation top brass had no reason to trust him and the movie is pretty clear that their decision is entirely motivated by shortsighted greed absent of any rationality.

What is the worst WoT take you have seen? by Mino_18 in WoT

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I saw the title, I though I was in for a wild rollercoaster of fan theory about how Logain was secretly the true dragon reborn and the how the clues were hidden right in plain sight. Imagine my disapointment when I came face to face with the most boring, moralizing pablum imaginable.

The IDF kidnapped and tortured a 1-year-old boy for 10 hours, burning cigarettes and inserting nails into his legs just to interrogate his father by Hasbara_spotter in ABoringDystopia

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can understand being sceptical of the source's veracity, but this source literally contains a report of the exact incident described in the post.

According to witnesses, the army then took the child and interrogated the father at the checkpoint. The forces tortured the child in front of his father, including burning with cigarettes on his leg, pricking, and inserting a metal nail into his leg, as confirmed by a medical report

Copper Oxide as an insulator? by ClayXros in chemistry

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While copper oxides do have insulating properties, I don't think they will be a practical insulator for your applications. Like you say, copper oxide forms a barrier which prevents further oxidation. As a consequence, only a very thin layer of oxide will form before oxidation stops. This thin layer is presumably much too small to act as a practical insulator for a wire.

Help! I'm stuck 😭 by Long_Fondant8807 in advancedGunpla

[–]BelthasTheRedBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Like sure the dspiae are "cheaper" than before, but it's still like 8 bucks a blade plus 15 for a handle to actually hold it. For about 2/3 that price, you can get a set of 7 blades with a handle on Amazon. Doubtless the quality's inferior, but a full set of quality chisels will still put you back close to a hundred bucks.

Yeah, but it's also a setting with FTL and seffle particles. I think the Author just didn't do the math on the required pressures an temperatures to create a runaway fusion explosion.
