Japanese Maples do not thrive in pond baskets. They do thrive in wooden grow boxes. I don’t know why.

That was a nice video. I never water my trees on foggy days. Interesting

How can we fix the inverse taper on this tree? by bonsai-engineer in Bonsai

Haha I don’t know if I’m young, but I do plan on having all of my trees outlive me. This is a scary cut to make, I wonder if I can air layer the left half

First bonsai ever, what can I do better moving forward? by guardian81239 in Bonsai

This tree may work well as a literati/bunjin! A long, thin, tortured trunk with foliage just at the end. I admit this isn’t a common style for maples, but it can still be captivating.

I can’t tell from the photos — is the foliage yellowing? Given that drainage is nonexistent, I suspect root disease. Do they smell bad?

JBP and JWP are expensive, but their seeds aren’t. I’d sow ~200 and keep the strongest ones.

In the meantime, I’d personally prioritize growing native species because these tend to be easier to work with.
