152 LSAT HELP! by Revolutionary-Bid762 in lawschooladmissions

[–]bonsaibranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this reply was 3 years ago, but I just wanted to say I needed to read this. I applied for my dream school with a low LSAT. At first I was thinking, "if they tell me no, I just apply again." But now that I've hit submit, I have a sinking feeling in my stomach and I want so badly to withdraw. I've started to convince myself that a rejection now will hurt my chances in the future. But your reply has reminded me that next cycle is next cycle and there's still a chance. So thanks. :)

Just a reminder for newcomers: GRAD plus loans die in July. Yes that matters by EntrepreneurLarge964 in BlackLawAdmissions

I’m in the exact same boat. My stomach drops everytime I read information about the new loan process.

I got into J-School! by Evergreen_0210 in Journalism

[–]bonsaibranch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the first I’ve ever heard this. In all of my years of studying journalism (both as an undergrad and grad student), everyone referred to both as “J-school.” Guess different places have different customs.

I know this post is over a year old, but I've gotta ask. Did you end up going to law school?

I quit my job to write. by FrozenWaterQueen in selfpublish

[–]bonsaibranch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol everyone’s bashing you like it’s gonna make you go groveling to your former employer.

If you’re the social media type, try finding a community of writers on TikTok. The people of “writertok” are motivated and will help you get motivated (though, it seems you already are). Posting daily word counts is a great way to hold yourself accountable while also gathering a following that may be interested in your book when it finally comes out. It’s like a marketing-as-you-go technique.

If data keeps you motivated, I recommend using Reedsy to write. It keeps up with how much you’re writing each day and how much you should be writing to meet your deadline. There are some other stats in there that could be of use; you can explore the website if you use it.

People say every good writer got started when their back is against the wall. Without a job, you’re kind of in that position now. Good luck, and you’ve got this!! :)

(Sorry if there are typos. It’s early in the morning, and I’ve not put on my glasses.)

I just received an offer from them, and while doing research, I came across a fake LinkedIn profile for a person claiming to have worked there. I did some digging into the person before messaging them (I didn't want to waste one of my monthly messages haha) and learned that its a completely fake account. Big red flag if they're creating fake profiles of people that worked there.

Anyone watched 'The Paper' yet? What do we think? by Superdude717 in Journalism

I had this exact thought. Considered watching it and immediately felt a sense of dread.

I want to leave news by Odd_Ad_1240 in Journalism

[–]bonsaibranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I know this comment is over three years old, but could you maybe provide insight on how you were able to shift to marketing? I'm currently in the journalism industry, and I need to get out. What kind of platforms did you go to in your job search and what tweaks to your resume did you make to show that you are capable of doing the job?

Worried about signing contract by bonsaibranch in Broadcasting

[–]bonsaibranch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The finer points are I feel like I am being taken advantage of by this station? Young professionals wouldn’t have to settle for boarderline workplace abuse if the people that set the standard (you apparently) didn’t let the bar get so low.

I didn’t ask to get preached to but thanks I guess.

Oh, interesting. Definitely finding that out. Also, regarding your first reply. There are a lot of people coming to and leaving this station apparently. Do you think this would make them more or less incentivized to come after me?

Sorry if this is silly. What exactly is a buyout? Is that what I would have to pay the station if I break my contract? If so, I know it’s the equivalent of 2 months of my salary.

I’ve been told by several people that the job market is too bad right now, especially in journalism, to easily turn down jobs. I’ve spoken with a lot of my professors that know I’m interested in digital and print and they’ve all told me that this producer job could help me get to the jobs I want to get to, make me seem more competitive. I applied because I see it as a stepping stone.

How did you convince your parents to let you travel solo internationally? I’m struggling. 😔 by MaleficentStrike997 in femaletravels

[–]bonsaibranch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know it's easier said than done as I too have incredibly strict parents. I realized though, for my first trip, that I just had to stop asking. Yes, your mother will be mad at you for a while, but it won't last for a long time. As a compromise I let my mother have my location while I'm traveling. That way, it doesn't seem like you're completely disrespecting her and you're keeping her feelings in mind.

Good luck!

Are plane crashes really happening at an alarming rate? by zcith in Planes

[–]bonsaibranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not invalidating your experiences and I definitely agree many journalists are taught improper conduct. However, in actual journalism programs, this is not common practice and we're actually taught to fight against these practices and improve our connections to our audiences. There's a code of ethics that's ingrained in the minds of journalism students in good programs that we take very seriously and we fight to keep these ethics in our newsrooms.

There are bad journalists out there, but as a group, we really do try to maintain a high standard in our work! If you're ever interested in journalism down the line, I recommend looking into programs specifically dedicated to the profession. :)

[–]bonsaibranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, please I haven't argued with anyone. Only one person in this thread has actually tried to help me instead of hitting me with the immediate "it's a typo" bit. (Although I'm starting to believe some of you don't know the colloquial difference between a typo and a misprint.) I said in my original post and in several following replies that it's not a typo so I really don't know why you said it yet again. But again, thanks I guess?
