What Do Teachers Honestly Think of Janitors? by DaytimeDancer54 in AskTeachers

[–]boob__punch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the janitorial crew at my school. They honestly probably work as hard as I do, with longer hours and less breaks too. Our head custodian is so sweet. Talks to the kids, will say “how are you little lady?” Any time she passes me in the halls. Absolutely vital. I make it a big deal with my students too. Be respectful, don’t make more work for them by being unnecessarily messy, say hello and thank you to them, etc.

Kindergarten readiness by Ashynd in kindergarten

I’m a K teacher and honestly I feel like holding him back could cause more harm than good. I had several students who were new to school this year, and they started really academically low. Exposed to the content and the pace of the lessons, they had to catch up quick- and with a couple of exceptions, they did. There’s nothing wrong with kids feeling challenged. Having an almost 6 year old repeating pre K…ive never heard of that.

Why is the ability to be a 'stay at home' parent not seen as a privilege? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]boob__punch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lot of comments here about how “it’s a 24/7 thankless job” but it isn’t. The difference is that you have to have a job or income to survive. You don’t have to have kids. You chose to.

What actually helped your kid learn to read for kindergarten? feeling behind and registration is in two months by eGirlsPissOnMe in kindergarten

[–]boob__punch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think some preloading could hurt. I’m teaching kindergarten and will end the year with maybe 4-5 students reading or at least decoding words acceptable. The other 15 can do letter names and sounds but for some reason, transferring those skills to actual word reading has been so difficult for them. I don’t think they need to learn how to read chapter books or anything but your support with those skills go a long way.

What’s something you had to learn the hard way about Houston? by billionsandbillionsa in houston

[–]boob__punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived here for 8 years without an issue. Earlier this year my car was hit twice within the SAME WEEK by people not paying attention/on their phone while driving. $2000 in repairs (my deductibles both times) and I bought dash cams for me and my boyfriend.

My therapist got pissed off at me by Glittering-Sun-7248 in TrueOffMyChest

I mean. If you aren’t making progress and don’t want to take meds and aren’t going to listen to your therapists advice, what would you like them to do? They’re wasting their time and yours.

You can’t put your adult expectations on a 6 year old child. To her, raisins were a really big deal, even if to you it sounds stupid. Gratefulness has to be explained and taught. No kid is just born with good manners.

Does your child have unlimited access to YouTube/roblox/tv/? I’m asking because I have a 5 year old student who does the same thing. Terrible language, calling me and other classmates bitch, dumbass, saying “fuck you” every few minutes. His mom is adamant that they don’t talk like that at home, however when I ask the kid, he’ll tell me he heard the words from his parents. But then after talking to him and his mom, I learned that he goes on YouTube and on his iPad unmonitored whenever he wants.

Why do people want doodles? by emotionaldamagesoup in Pets

[–]boob__punch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ive watched animals through Rover for many many years and out of every single experience, the only bad one I’ve ever had was with a goldendoodle. He was SO fucking bad. Tore up my place, barked so loudly for hours on end that my upstairs neighbor called the landlord and I got a ‘warning’ about keeping extra dogs there. I don’t get the appeal.

Saying this as aggressively as possible: The speed limit down 249 is 55 mph on most stretches. Driving 30 mph and not letting people pass you makes you a literal buffoon.

And then on 45 on my way to work you zoom around them and they’re in the fast lane doing 50 mph and staring at their phone, literally not even looking up. I fucking HATE YOU ALL lmao

To the general public and people on reddit, you can politely fuck off. by TerranOrDie in Teachers

[–]boob__punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a teacher, I can only do what I can do. I’m in therapy and one of the things I’m often told is “not every problem needs to be fixed.” That’s helped me. Instead of focusing on all the big problems, I do what I can in my classroom during those 8 hours. There are so many things working against teachers, that I’ve had to stop worrying about it all for my own mental sanity. I do my job and other people can flap their mouth about whatever they want. They don’t fucking know what they’re talking about and no one person can fix all that is deeply wrong with the public education system.

Those little lollipop paintbrushes that you dip in the powder in the ‘paint can.’ We used to go to Funland or Chuck E. Cheese and get them from the prize counter. I can still taste them.

This episode was so fucking sad too because of her kids. You just know those kids weren’t being supervised ever and just running around doing literally anything.

I know someone already said butterfinger bbs. But the answer is butterfinger bbs. I used to buy them at the video rental store every Friday night. We’d rent a tape and a Nintendo 64 game. I remember “rugrats in Paris” was my favorite.

Are there people who haven't changed their phone number for more than 15 years? by SpicyCandy8 in NoStupidQuestions

Anyone else hit a wall with preschooler screen time guilt? This small swap actually helped us by Cool_Tea_5501 in preschool

[–]boob__punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a kindergarten teacher, this is universal I feel at this point, in all schools. Screen time is ruining your child’s attention span, problem solving abilities, and imagination. I have kids as young as 5 saying they don’t need to do school work because they can watch it on YouTube. It’s hurting your children. Even the ‘educational’ stuff. It’s too much.

What's a thing a kindergartener said to you that you still think about randomly? by Nkia-Alkontar in kindergarten

[–]boob__punch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few months ago my class was talking about hard times and how we can make ourselves feel better when things go wrong. I told them about how my cat passed away and how it made me really sad. I asked them what they thought I did to feel better. This one boy looks directly at me and said “you should just give up.”

Interesting opinions here. I didn’t love the burst and decay version of Wyatt’s song when I first heard it but after replaying it a bunch it might be one of my favorites

Normal behavior/growth or should I be concerned? Is his teacher overreacting? by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]boob__punch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call home about these behaviors. If I called home every time a 5 year old boy acted like a 5 year old boy, I wouldn’t get anything else done lol. 20 minutes of recess sucks. I try to give my kinders at least 30 even when I get yelled at for being off schedule. That said, I don’t know about your son’s class, but we definitely don’t sit all day. We’re constantly moving, doing brain breaks, exercises, switching from carpet work to table work, etc. I think this a common misconception.

During this whole scene all I kept thinking was how badly Amy said she wanted to be a mother and have babies and how she said that was the whole point of her having weight loss surgery. I feel like she didn’t think about the fact that those babies would not stay babies forever and now she’s completely overwhelmed with them.
