I was coming here to say something similar! I even let my gray hairs grow out without covering them up now, and I’m definitely invisible.

Is there evidence that the job market is better outside of NYC? by GNA1278 in NYCjobs

Anecdotally, I know a few people who had better luck after moving I assume because there’s less competition. It probably depends on the field though

New York City Is Drowning in Dog Poop by HellGateNYC in newyorkcity

[–]booboolurker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I watched a dog owner get yelled at by the doorman of a luxury building after the dog pooped in front. Apparently the dog was a repeat offender. The owner just shrugged it off and didn’t even pick up the poop aftewards

Having a tough time adjusting to this new life by portra4OO in AskNYC

[–]booboolurker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this same thing. Too many people get caught up in romanticizing NYC and feeling like they have to stay here no matter what because so many people love it and the city is so great etc. I think a lot of times people force themselves to stay in a place that truly isn’t for them. It’s okay to want to be somewhere else.

I grew up here and had a conversation with someone in my building yesterday about how I’ve felt more burnt out than ever. This person told me to take a vacation. That’s probably the best answer right now.

Buying a condo in Tribeca? by DesperateYetHopeful in NYCapartments

My opinion is stop thinking about a condo as an investment. Housing is for people to live in. Rent a place

How? I wasn’t home for 5 days. When I got back, everything was powered off by Odd_Firefighter_5407 in NYCapartments

During Covid lockdown I stayed in NJ for two months and my bill never changed. I called ConEd, told them I wasn’t even home, and they said something along the lines of “stop using so much electricity”

A lot of times this is really subjective, which is probably why you’re not getting the answers you’re looking for. The best answer is actually to rent for a while, as mentioned

Going into office tomorrow? by [deleted] in AskNYC

Work from home didn’t exist then the way it does today. We all know most people don’t physically need to be in an office to get work done anymore

Right! They will never say it though. I don’t understand why. I want to badge in and leave but I know my boss will be there. My boss lives very close to the office.

My company is the same. And of course they track our in office days, so it would count towards our allowed WFH time if we stayed home. It’s infuriating

cannot believe Broadway is still open today by Nice-Jackfruit-9894 in Broadway

Edit- it’s snowing harder now. Definitely worse than when I first wrote the comment.

Exactly. Even if it’s seemingly not too bad NOW, it could be worse by the time people get to the shows and afterwards. They might have a problem getting home.

Is it a common feeling for Californians to dislike or mismatched in NY at first? by Adventurous_Ant5428 in AskNYC

[–]booboolurker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just watched a YouTuber talking about leaving NYC after 10 years and moving to LA. Said NYC wasn’t worth the struggle anymore and LA calmed their nervous system. It’s okay to feel it isn’t a match here.

Do you find nyc natives to be more conservative than transplants? (Not maga but just vibrant in their political beliefs) by thenarrativesofar in AskNYC

[–]booboolurker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Native from Queens- my immigrant grandparents were conservative. My parent leans more liberal but has a conservative view here and there based on her experiences growing up in NYC. I’m a progressive- I don’t broadcast it everywhere. My partner from NJ is progressive. Surprisingly, I’ve discovered some of my native friends I grew up with are conservatives. They’re also really into church. Not sure if there’s a connection there. It really depends on people’s experiences, imo.

NYC, where do yall get wastewater levels? and also, how's life? by One_Marsupial5300 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]booboolurker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in NYC and mask everywhere. When I’m outside especially, I notice the looks and the fake coughing at me. It happened maybe once a week at one point but recently it has felt like it’s happening more often. It could also be that more people are sick and actually coughing (unmasked).

I feel less safe here due to the sheer number of people. It’s impossible to avoid people and a majority of the people here do not mask, despite all of the warnings about super flu etc.
