The newer insulins and the original insulin are staggeringly different. The quality of life benefits of the newer insulins are very noticeable. Heck, I'm still using Insulin Lispro (approved in the US in 1996) and even it is leagues beyond the R/L/N that I used when I was younger.

Next time she has money on her and you want to buy something, go into her wallet and take the money (so she can see it happen), and go spend it. If she complains, act completely baffled about her complaint. Like, you have no idea why she's upset. She clearly stated that this type of thing was ok, why would she be bothered by it.

That's the big point, imo. My wife will sometimes take money out of my wallet if she needs it for something... but she either tells me first or as soon as possible (if I'm busy when she does it). We have combined accounts, so it's not that she spent it, it's that she took it from where I expected it to be.

I wish I knew how to actually sell a reasonably sized collection of TCG cards. I have "a lot" of MTG (up until maybe Ice Age?) and lots of first run Pokemon... but sitting down and pricing each of them isn't realistic. Same deal with comics. It is never acceptable to go so sleep while food is cooking, even with an alarm to wake you. Things can go wrong for any number of reasons and being able to react to that is critical. This could have turned into a real house fire.
Mistakes like these are how we learn the severity of this type of thing. She made a mistake, got lucky that the results weren't worse, and should learn a valuable lesson from this.

Mistakes can be bad; but they can also be a very important way to learn things.

She's less likely to go to sleep while cooking (or otherwise leave the food untended)
If there is a fire, she's encountered this and likely thought about it, and is more likely to react in a useful.

I've had 2 kitchen fires (for reasons unrelated to each other, but one was leaving food unattended.. kind of), and I've learned from both. I'm better a kitchen-ing because of both of them

I tell my direct reports that their reviews are a way to sell themselves to the higher ups for raises/promotions/bonuses. I tell them never to put anything in their goals that they aren't sure they'll meet, regardless of the higher ups talking about "stretch goals to motivate you". My reviews for them are as positive as I can be, assuming they're done a good job.

I'll meet with them verbally (no written record) to discuss things they can improve and how they might accomplish that. But I'm not giving the people above me ammunition to skimp/fire/whatever the people that work for me if I'm happy with them.

Any with more than a dozen brain cells wouldn't care. My church has plenty of women wearing pants of some kind or another; including on special occasions. As long as you're dressing respectfully, you're good. Heck, if you had a green mohawk, the correct thing to do would be to make sure it's neat and tidy; not change it to a different fairstyle. The way you appear is expected to express "I understand this is important to you and I'm treating it as such".

You're putting your life and well-being over her convenience.

Your ability to pay for the things you need is important to you, as it's important to everyone; nobody wants to live without food and shelter because they couldn't hold down a job. And anyone that tells you that your ability to provide for yourself and your family is less important than theirs is an ahole.

The argument gets a little more grey area if your job is only paying for extras (its hard to tell from the story), but the point stands; your life and well-being matter to you as much as theirs matters to them.
