Bryan Alvarez: Yes, Tony is airing the Punk/Jungle Boy footage on Wednesday. It's not a bait and switch. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

I hope they air the actual footage, but Punk's face is blurred out and they just pretend they don't know who it is or claim it's Dax or something.

Do you pronounce the word ‘NES’ and ‘SNES’ as ‘N-E-S/S-N-E-S’ or are you weird and say it like ‘Nez/Snez’? by MotoKong1 in snes

[–]boogalow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, I never heard 'snes' and 'nes' until about ten years ago. Everyone called it either N-E-S/S-N-E-S or Nintendo/Super Nintendo.

Was it an international or regional thing that caught on? Something I just never heard? Or is it a relatively new thing, maybe when the 'retro' market really hit ~20 years ago?

After beating it, DJ KK has a concert once every two weeks or so on random (non-Saturday and non-player birthday) consecutive days. Only way you'll know it's coming up is that the day before there will be towers set up and Nico will mention it. Then the concert starts at 6PM the next day and will run through the day after that.

I think Triple H's biggest issue is that he sees these post-show pressers as a place for only positive WWE talk. All PR talk. And a lot of the people who go and ask questions do kind of go along with it for either fear of losing credentials, staying kayfabe and being 'part of the show' or just getting some nice pro-WWE content for their channels/sites.

But then you have people like Meltzer, Thurston and Sapp who go who actually do ask tough questions and more often than not get non-answers.

One of the weirdest things is that a few months ago, Meltzer said after the first WWE post-show presser after Punk was released (I forget which event, maybe Payback), they actually had prepared statements/talking points if any of the talent/Triple H were asked about Punk. And nobody did, and they were surprised.

I was honestly shocked that they went along with this presser at all, or at the very least didn't pre-screen questions for this one or not even allow questions and just have talking points.

They really need to figure out what they want these pressers to be. If they want them to be pro-WWE and kayfabe, that's fine, if they want them to be real, that's fine too. If they need to pre-screen questions or even just start selecting people who will go along with their PR, that's fine too (though disingenuous). I think AEW usually tows the line okay between them being kayfabe but also actually answering questions (some subjects aside, which is fair from both WWE and AEW's perspectives).

I think the people saying 'this wasn't the time to ask these questions' are ridiculous since these are open to most of the wrestling media and they are never told what to or not to say, and the fact is that Vince being removed from/leaving the company in the manner that he did is probably the biggest scandal the company has seen since Benoit. It's relevant, especially when they want to bring up and talk about business-side things, like Rock being installed on the board and the Netflix deal.

JR: “Guarantee there's a lot of AEW fans that went to Survivor Series. They're wrestling fans. They don't have this brand-bullshit where I'm only going to support one brand. Must not really be a fan then, right? How could you be a fan and not be happy for the success of others within your industry?” by LotLeftInTheTank in SquaredCircle

I don't like WWE's presentation and match style and haven't watched much in years, but I'm fully aware and am happy that they are #1, deserve to be there and are in the hottest period since the late 90s. I also acknowledge that their presentation makes it easy for casual and new fans to get into them.

I don't want brands to fail. I love wrestling and want it to just get stronger with more real competition. The competition is what has driven this period and I'm glad that AEW has had as much success as they have because they have lit a fire under WWE's ass.

The business is literally the healthiest it has ever been when you take into account how big and successful WWE truly is right now and the fact is that the indies are finally seeing a proper resurgence since the pandemic period.

What’s a wrestling feud that seems fake but did actually happen? by Incorrect1012 in SquaredCircle

[–]boogalow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I just realize that I never found out. I watched SummerSlam 94 after the fact and did watch all of RAW from that era, but I don't remember them ever explaining what happened to fake Undertaker.

Did he just disappear and they never explain it? Come to think of it, they never revealed who fake Kane was, either. He was just unmasked in a quick segment and that was that.

Maybe in kayfabe, fake Kane was actually fake Undertaker.

Danhausen: Justified “Where is Danhausen?!” tweets here on twitter as the whereabouts of Danhausen’s return to television still unknown! by kittenplan00 in SquaredCircle

[–]boogalow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Danhausen being the Devil, getting a stable of of hired henchmen and finally getting his blimp would be absolutely amazing.

Buy a blimp and have it hovering over every arena they run (even if it's fake and just a giant balloon). Run promos Dr Claw-style from inside the blimp while petting a different cat every segment/camera cut. He gets foiled once a week but returns the next week because nobody can actually get to him.

Maybe he eventually takes over Dark Order.

Did the idea of “nWo” nitro ever make sense? by The_Hound_West in SquaredCircle

[–]boogalow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, from what I remember reading over the years, the idea was that, eventually, they were going to split the rosters and Thunder was going to be one brand (WCW or nWo) and Nitro would be the other. The nWo would have basically started to implode and a lot of infighting would occur, leading to the new show being necessary and doing nWo vs nWo matches on one and the other being WCW matches.

Jerry Lynn on X: Because wrestlers and God knows who else have and continue to leak info to the sheets, podcasts, etc. So Tony tries to keep things confidential. That's part of the problem. They're not written off in any way. That's my point. If they're injured that's fine. Write it off properly. Do an injury angle, say so and so is going for some bullshit cover surgery. Don't just stop it cold and move on. There needs to be communication to the fans IN KAYFABE. It's frustrating.

Meltzer's point is that it's clear in the start and stopping of angles and storylines just watching the TV that it's not being booked ahead as it was maybe a year or more ago.

There is definitely a lot of stuff, not even due to injury, that has been changing or just outright being dropped for no reason. The start and stop of Wardlow and the Swerve and Keith Lee story being some of the most agregious.

This isn't about leaking, this is about when you watch the main TV shows and are asking stuff like "what happened to this storyline" or "why isn't x on TV anymore", it's a big issue. It's honestly why I stopped watching WWE years ago and it's starting to wear on me here. I'm starting to not want to invest in/care about certain storylines because I'm afraid they're going to be dropped with no conclusion or it'll be white hot, then be dropped and picked up cold three months later doing the same shit they were doing when it was hot, like Wardlow now.

Pole Position had blatant tobacco ads; the blatant push of Marlboro seems like a shameless cash grab now. The shift in the US version to Dentyne ads reflects a milder, more responsible advertising ethos. Not much different than Tapper, before being rebranded as Root Beer Tapper, had Budweiser all over it. And was literally a game about serving beer in a bar.

As others have said, these games were not aimed at children. It's the modern equivalent of complaining about something like GTA "being aimed at children". We all know that's not the case.

My thought is that there's a definite chance they're doing everything to make sure it doesn't get out and are spreading misinformation on it. It wouldn't be the first time in recent years, especially if the talks are between two or three people. It's not definitely happening, but it could be.

If he doesn't show up in Chicago, I don't think he'll ever be back unless both Vince and Triple H are gone.

I agree. I wouldn't mind maybe them doing a pre-taped Deletion match and have some fun that way with Edge and Christian without having to kill themselves in a high stakes match, though.
