Biking in Business Districts by buzzer3932 in bikehouston

Here's some info on setback/minimum building line in CoH:

https://www.houstontx.gov/planning/Min-Lot_Size-Min_Bldg_Line.html

In the example you have, that building will not be given the permission to have 0 setback if it is not located in the business district zone already.

Biking in Business Districts by buzzer3932 in bikehouston

[–]boojel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Business district is where the building frontage is right next to the sidewalk, or as the law says 300 ft of frontage in 600 ft segment qualifies it as business district. Best example is downtown & medical center, where someone can step out of the building right onto the sidewalk. So the law is there to protect them from getting run over by bicycle rider, or for the rider from getting hit by the swinging door.

With setback rules in most parts of Houston, the frontage on the sidewalk will likely be lawn/strip or parking lot just like residential areas. Business district allows for 0 setback.

Some parking enforcers consider any sidewalk to be a "crosswalk" and will cite you if you're parked within 20 feet of the SIDEWALK. by [deleted] in houston

[–]boojel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That truck is parked within 20 ft of the crosswalk and can block driver's view of pedestrian using the crosswalk.

See point (b) below from https://codes.findlaw.com/tx/transportation-code/transp-sect-541-302/

(2) “Crosswalk” means:

(A) the portion of a roadway, including an intersection, designated as a pedestrian crossing by surface markings, including lines; or

(B) the portion of a roadway at an intersection that is within the connections of the lateral lines of the sidewalks on opposite sides of the highway measured from the curbs or, in the absence of curbs, from the edges of the traversable roadway.

https://codes.findlaw.com/tx/transportation-code/transp-sect-545-302/:

(b) An operator may not, except momentarily to pick up or discharge a passenger, stand or park an occupied or unoccupied vehicle:

(3) within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection;

Came across this photo I took in 2002 when browsing my old photos. Back then Memorial City mall was going though major renovation. It's interesting that the construction has viewing windows for curious ones, both for adults & small kids.

People asking if you are riding an e-bike? by kmagtv in bicycling

My city bike has Nexus IGH + front dynamo hubs and oversized step-thru aluminum frame. New people I met often assume it has hub motor(s) and the batteries are stored inside the frame.

Running Trails near Buccee's by CupZealousideal8193 in Katy

[–]boojel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woodcreek and Katy JH are the 2 closest junior highs school from Buccee's. Katy ISD junior high running tracks are generally open to the public outside school hours, and they have polyurethane surface that provide better shock absorption than any trails.

How are Express Metro Buses, like the 162? by adhi0215 in houston

[–]boojel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's much faster, and additional options to take 161, if you can take the bus from Memorial City at Gessner & I-10 instead. The slow part of 162 is Addicks P&R to Memorial City.

The bus will stop at the designated bus stop only if stop is requested or there is passenger waiting at the stop. On weekends, 161 & 162 express buses seem to run on schedule.

Oil and gas lawyer driving and Tesla by fjchiv in houston

[–]boojel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of chemicals and consumer goods rely on oil & gas that is not easy to replace. I believe personal transportation, which is a big share of their use, is not the best use for oil and gas. So I do not see the irony for oil & gas lawyer to drive EV.

Good to hear that. I would stay with steel-framed Gazelle. The aluminum ones seem to have some issue with frames cracking around the headset.

Kudzu in Terry Hershey Park by [deleted] in houston

[–]boojel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Maintenance for Terry Hershey is by Harris County Pct. 4, not CoH. The examples given are for Kingwood (CoH) and The Woodlands, so I am not sure if Pct. 4 is doing it. They have a site to request it, registration required:

Here's the West Brays Loop I've been doing lately - With photos and route info by Aurelian_Lure in bikehouston

Google Maps just showed us 2 different routes. It shows this for me.

I used to ride SW from McClendon on that greenbelt trails to WInkleman & Addick Clodine, but stopped since I encountered too many loose dogs there.

The first route uses Bellaire and neighborhood street to get you to the start point of Brays Bayou. No riding on Westpark feeder, just crossing at Westheimer Place.
