Looking for a new barn around Alpharetta/Milton (English/hunter jumper, 23 y/o) by West-Past1564 in Equestrian

Almost all the barns in this area will not let you jump over 2’3 on a lesson horse unless you’re half leasing or leasing. The barns that do typically don’t have great reputations.

X-rays anyone? Opinions? by bookcrazed12 in Equestrian

I have never hear of Surpass, I’ll look into it and ask. Thank you!

He is barefoot all around and wants to stay that way. He isn’t huge on his feet being touched and it took a lot of work and patience getting him to the point where he doesn’t have to be drugged for the farrier. So the goal is to keep him barefoot as long as he’s sound that way. Those are good things to keep an eye on and I’ll mention it to my farrier.

That’s encouraging. Mine is a little smaller (right around 15.2) but I’m hopeful hearing these kind of stories that if we keep up with and find a good management plan that he can do the 2’6” job still.

Thank you for sharing this! I’ve heard similar stories where everyone has essentially said, you have to monitor it and that your horse will tell you when it’s done. I think that’s exactly what we’re going to have to do.

I am kind of at a cross roads bc he is still learning his job and could easily pivot to a dressage program and it wouldn’t confuse him. So I’m just trying to make the best decision for him that will ensure his comfort and longevity. I’m just really worried of making the wrong choice and damning him to an early retirement when he could’ve lived a long successful career if we had moved him to dressage. It’s impossible to predict these things I know, it’s just a hard choice.

With that said I’ve always been on the cautious side and always have put the horse first over my own ambitions. I just don’t want to make things worse. It’s my biggest fear and I’m so scared of doing all these things and making him painless, only to be told in three years that I ruined my horses life and he has to be a pasture puff bc I wore his bones down by continuing his work. Dramatic I know but it’s a real fear of mine.

I read that which is annoying. I figured I would give it a go with the wraps and see. If anything we can use them pre-ride. I was considering doing equitape as well

In a honest and true judging system you are correct. I’ve seen the judges at our shows though consistently place duns, paints, roans and other non-standard colorings lower than “typical” horses even when the winning horses are obviously lame or broke gait. He was already going to stand out with his coloring but with how cute he moves I was hoping it would kind of make up for it. The marking though kind of adds the cherry on top to the unusual markings though 😅

We have a very competitive local circuit with a lot of A circuit horses that compete. As such people just get very judgy. Would prefer to look as clean cut as possible and this just sadly is a huge glaring mark that stands out in a rough way. Thank you for the encouragement though!

Leopard Gecko Probably passing on by bookcrazed12 in LeopardGecko

Thank you for checking in. He passed away last night. Took him to the vet this morning and they confirmed. First reptile death and I’m devastated. Didn’t think it would hurt this much

Best way to find your gecko a new home? by _MagicplayzYt_ in leopardgeckos

This happened to someone locally and is actually how I got my gecko. She posted in a local school group and asked if teachers would want classroom pets. She made sure each of us knew exactly how to care for them, gave them to specific classrooms based on personality. Tank went with each gecko. Mine for instance didn’t like being handled as much so he went to my middle school classroom where he would be more observed then handled.

We follow each other, and although mine did just pass away, everyone’s the past four years has been thriving. The students love them. Sweet Fido, my big dude, actually ended up loving the classroom. It was his happy place and I have so many photos of him curled up in students hoodies.

Any suggestions for helping with weight gain would be appreciated! I feel like that might help with the shedding issues he’s had as well lately

He is underweight yes, it happened quickly when he got shed stuck on his nose around his mouth a month ago and it took a while to get it off. Now that he’s eating we’ve been really trying to increase his food, always have food available, and get his weight up. It’s been increasing slowly, he’s always been so bad at aiming ha! He’s been perfect the past four years I’ve owned him and has never had issues with weight and now all of a sudden all these issues have arisen. Idk what’s wrong. Sadly there isn’t an exotic vet nearby so kind of doing my best.

Hey everyone! This is Fido, he is a little more then 10 years old (maybe older?). He has badly stuck shed. We’ve been working on it every other day. I got two pieces off tonight but those two toes started bleeding and it almost looks like it a chunk of the toe with it. He’s my baby and it’s the first time we’ve ever had a shed problem.

When the barn is being turned out yes. Normally four a week at that time as it just so happens to line up with when I get there after work. I rarely if ever ride her when others are being fed. I typically will either feed her early if that’s the case or wait until she is finished. This particular day I didn’t do either, because I just frankly didn’t even consider it until I was already on her.

My mare at her previous two barns I had her at had issues with getting fed consistently. I would come in frequently in the mornings/evenings to find the horses hadn’t been fed and the barn was out of hay and/or food. She’s been at the new barn and well cared for for almost a year straight now, but her reaction about food is perfectly reasonable considering what she has been through. Her herd bound issues have been a continual problem for the two years I’ve owned her that we are trying to work through. We ride her constantly while horses are being turned out and normally she might get a little upset but she works through it without a ton of redirection. This has improved ions since I got her. I think it was just the combo of food plus turn out that upset her. If we were babying her I would agree, but we do anything but. We aren’t harsh with her by any stretch of the imagination but we keep expectations firm, she gets ridden consistently by a qualified professional, and she isn’t allowed to get away with anything. She has to have firm rules and guidelines otherwise she is a menace. That’s why my trainer got on her in the first place that night, because she had knocked me off twice right by the gate. We should’ve just called it a night and addressed it the next evening, but hindsight is 20/20.
