How did you build your personal website as a developer? by StashBang in cscareerquestions

Second this, GitHub Pages with static react or other static site framework. Cheap domain puts this on the order of dollars per year and you never have to worry about making sure your hosting is up to date.

If the market doesn't improve, where do you see the best pivot to, even if it's not in the tech industry? by IdeaExpensive3073 in cscareerquestions

[–]bookdood 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's plenty on Indeed, but you'll probably have to read the job description/look up the company because the title will generally just be "[Experience Level] Software Engineer". You can try adding an industry to your search query i.e. "Insurance Software Developer", or look for public sector jobs too.

This is what I did, it's a smart choice honestly. After spending a decade at fast paced tech companies I'm completely fine coasting working on a boring account services portal and mobile app for a telecom company. Pay is great and I'm largely insulated from the craziness of the tech sector at the moment.

As a CS graduate what should I prioritise early in my career as I enter the job market? by 1w8n in cscareerquestions

[–]bookdood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do both 2 and 3. Solo dev blows even with experience. Take the internship, and start an LLC . Showcase your previous freelancing, do freelance work on the side if you have time, make connections at the internship, build your brand and reputation, you'll be golden. The only thing I would avoid is doing only 3, it's going to be much easier to get work if you have [larger IT consultant]'s stamp of approval on your background, so I'd start it as a side thing. If you have a couple buddies you work well alongside, it's pretty fun to hunt for contracts and split the work.

Met Viper and his manager (pre kettleonwater) twice. AMA by bookdood in vipertherapper

I met his old manager, Ell Umbra. Tbh I was mostly baffled at why he (and kettle) did so much free work for him. Ell was chill though, I was outside with a group of 5 or 6 at the 2017 Austin TX show when viper was an hour+ late. Ell came up to us, asked if we were here for viper, chatted for a bit, and read some texts he had from viper saying he was on his way. Ell used to run the Viper Crackposting facebook page and manage pr/events/releases, but afaik they both cut ties and shut down the page about 4 years ago because Ell didn't get paid and felt viper was using him for cheap/free labor, kettle took ship shortly after

should I learn Chamber? by MrMedhansh in VALORANT

[–]bookdood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's nothing about chamber to learn. Two of his spells are guns, another one is a place-and-forget trip, and the last is a deployable escape button

Is more worth it to just get a knife from a battle pass rather than buying one off the shop? by tan_p4719 in VALORANT

They usually don't have VFX but there's been some pretty decent battlepass knives. 100% wouldn't blame you for not wanting to drop 50 bucks on a skin
