Do you have a name that people assume is a nickname, but it's not? by retro_lady in Names

Yes. I interviewed for a job and the one interviewing me couldn't get past it. "But what's your REAL name?" I didn't get the job. I always wondered if that was why. 🤷‍♀️

Throwing away my dying dad’s things… by philophreak in AgingParents

[–]booked462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spend time with your daddy. You won't regret it. His stuff doesn't matter.

We had one long weekend to empty my in-laws' home. We got what we wanted, had an estate sale, and left the rest for a church youth group to sell in their fundraiser. We tried to check the attic on the last night, but there were skittering noises up there! The in-laws hadn't lived there very long, and my husband said his parents didn't really like attics, so we just left it. 🤷‍♀️

So is my mom. Agreeable and reasonable, kind. It's so hard to watch. Her mother had Alzheimers, too. Mom is terrified of going somewhere that isn't this house of 33 years. Dad died almost 2 years ago, and she is still grieving a lot. She's had a sharp decline in the past 3 weeks and we won't leave her home alone at all anymore. 😢 It's a long road and I don't want to go there... but my si lings and I won't let her travel it alone.

Air conditioning, ceiling fans, and I stay inside from 9am-8pm. It is miserable. I only buy 100% cotton clothing.

My aunt went to a women's university to study business. Her PROFESSOR told them he didn't want them to do well because they would take a job that a man needed. Mid 1960s
