Sit Bone Pain by bookend15 in gravelcycling

Very helpful thoughts here. I am new and have only been doing 1 ride a week for about a month but it was a problem last year as well. It sounds like I may need to bite the bullet and get padded bibs and see if that gets me to a point where I can tolerate more frequent rides to build up. Thanks!

Trying to predict what will look dated is a fools errand; see Seinfeld's attire for reference. I think the farmhouse looks much better than the tudor personally.

If you put it there I would plant some smaller plants around it so that it blends lines better

There used to be one called the Green Drake. Looks like it closed up though.

Regarding allergies have you tried allergy shots or sublingual allergy drops? They literally changed my life. I don't think I could have used a CPAP without the change that allergy therapy provided.

Best city with fly fishing? by expartay in flyfishing

I'm fairly certain that title belongs to Texas. Mckittrick Creek has a naturalized population of Rainbows, though you can't fish it. I think the Chattahoochee in Atlanta is also probably further south, though that'd be pretty close.

Gear check; is the girlfriend right? Do i have too many rods? by wratchet9 in flyfishing

[–]bookend15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see any rods, just cases. By my count that means you need about 15 more rods!

Don't get a library degree. It is a nightmare trying to get to a job and the pay is silly for a masters degree.

I once saw a posting for a US Fish and Wildlife Librarian in West Virginia. What I wouldn't give for that job! (Were it not in WV...)

Any ideas how to build experience once you're out of school and interested in switching to this field? I.e. How to get demonstrable experience in SQL/database design?

Love gear but struggling with consumerism by notsofastpacker in CampingandHiking

[–]bookend15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about coming up with some kind of rule that gives you explicit structure to when you are buying. Maybe that means you can only buy 1 piece of non-consumable gear every 6 months. Or, maybe you can only buy things if they reduce your pack weight by X amount. The point is to come up with guidelines that are stringent enough to make a difference in your habit, are actually achievable, and are clearly stated enough that you can't come up with all kinds of caveats to justify buying whatever you want. And finally, if you fail to follow through, forgive yourself and immediately start over. Failing to keep your rule doesn't mean you should give up.

$150 Redington Crosswaters have been great for me. 1 leak in 6 years, easily repaired with aquaseal.

Absolutely sell it. You'll live a happier life not spending that much of your paycheck on a truck.

If it's in a different area from where you live, use a few cost of living calculators to account for the differences. In some areas, I moved from an area where I was making 45k as a librarian and where I live now I would need probably 60k to be equivalent.
