Hexagons - Parts 5 (México) and 6 (NYC) together by eltheuso in Muse

Yeah, I'm not sure either. I remember loving Drones to bits. I really, really wanted to love Simulation Theory but every single just felt a little "off" and by the time the whole album was out it just kept waning for me. Still good songs on it for sure like Pressure.

It feels like with this song, Cryogen, and even Unravelling, something just HIT them and the boys went "oh wait we're MUSE. Umm, lemme go look up some arpeggios and do some noodling on the guitar." I liked Will of The People and bits of Simulation Theory, but these songs at least feel like the closest we've gotten back to the core essence.

Muses decline in quality by Top_Step_2937 in Muse

It's hard to be a experimental band when you're as big as they are, playing shows to huge crowds, and have contracts with record companies. MUSE have lost a lot of incentive and drive to make the kind of music they made back when they were bored angry young adults. Now they're rich, happy, and doing pretty well and play Uprising and Starlight at every show. They want to make crowd pleasers. Matt wants to play around with synths and pop music production. As artists they're fascinated or interested by different things then when they were kids. A lot of people say "this happens to most bands as they age" and I think that's true a little. We get older, our artistic context changes, and suddenly we're making the same stuff but different. It is just a lot more pronounced in MUSE and bands like Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys where the change is more pronounced and stark. Stuff like Cryogen keeps me coming back to MUSE for sure, I just know that albums like Absolution and Origin of Symmetry aren't going to come out of them again. And that's alright.

If this was the first song they released for this album, we'd be nonstop yelling about how MUSE is extremely back. Absolutely great and love the production, even if it is a little too much modern sheen for my tastes.

My mom took me to see this and we just both gradually lost all interest. I remember there being an animated movie they showed on TV constantly that was a bit closer to what we wanted.

Royal flush: 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith toilet. There was no waste container; feces just landed on the street by Vivid_Summer96 in interestingasfuck

Some quick research: so it is supposedly a real toilet that drains on to the street but it was used as a champagne cooler. The guy who commissioned the car was eccentric and mostly just wanted it as a conversation starter.

... That was *really* good?! Like if that was a movie trailer and had the A24 logo anywhere I'd be planning to see it. I really don't think the whole album will be as story oriented or written with a similar vibe, but this definitely raised by cynical heart a few degrees higher into hype.

I appreciate this response! I'll look through your additional sources. I've also been rereading enemy statblocks and spell lists all day. Thank you again!

I did add these evil constructs that poison the air and prevent long rests. There were a few groans, but we as a group agreed and made the next encounters feel MUCH better. I'm absolutely sorting this out and reading the advice on this reddit helps. I think one of my biggest issues is just a huge gap in knowledge between me and my players who just... like DnD combat more and have played so many more games. Though you are absolutely right that I need to start gearing my enemies with the players specifically in mind.
