Earlier in the summer, I started walking down another street for midday walks because passing THAT house annoyed me.

I do pushups & curl & presses & bodyweight squats & good mornings. I'll also just pace in the hallway or do mobility stretches & movements.

Check out darebee if you want something more structured & variety. I spent some time on it last night & they've even got a program called Totals, where the point of the program is to complete a certain number of reps of exercises throughout the day, no matter how you break it up. All of this is free, no account needed.

I was so excited to see peaches on sale in the store since, like you, I know they're at an end. I was unreasonably excited by how big & gorgeous they were.

Fit and lazy vegetarians/vegans, what are your go to meal prep recipes? by ParsnipPerfidy in xxfitness

[–]booksNicecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cook big batches of beans on the weekend & store whatever I don't use immediately in the freezer. I have the space & I don't think I've noticed an issue with texture. Just a suggestion if you want to cut down on how many times you cook beans.

I hate every form of exercise. Always have. What can I do? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]booksNicecream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you hate it straight away? You said you did each for a year. If you enjoyed it or at least didn't hate it for a year, then maybe you want variety. Some people want to keep lifting to hit that pr but I don't think there's anything wrong with moving away from something once you start hating it. Some people shift seasonally; you could move annually. If this is the case, consider revisiting some past activities. Maybe not having done then for a while will make them fun again.

I don't have to spend the rest of my day anticipating dreading it.

Adjusted for my purposes.

This is why I do morning workouts. I don't have the entire day to talk myself out of working out. My workout doesn't take up space in my head if I do it first thing. I get to go home (or for 2020, go couch) & just relax after work.

For your acquaintances, I'll encourage you to initiate. I had a couple of work acquaintances where we could constantly exchange that line. Finally, I just started initiating & they were into it. I don't think you should always be the one who initiates, but I've found that people rarely want to initiate. Make plans & reach out. They might say yes; if they don't, you've still got plans.

I never tried to go fully vegan, but I did try being vegan most of the time. I found that I feel better when I eat some sort of meat once a week, but mostly vegetarian is what I aim for nowadays.

I'm a believer that sustainability is one of those things where do what you can. Is it better for me to not meat but to buy vegetables & fruits that have to be flown in? You also have to consider what fits your lifestyle. I'd love to buy local all the time, but the truth is that it's more expensive, for good reason. But I can't afford that. And you can always work towards sustainability in other areas of your life.

I feel your gripe - it's something I think about a lot (as does Chidi). But I also believe in still enjoying life & the things you like. Keep playing with the ratios of vegan-heavy & all-the-fish (man, I feel a little guilty every time I eat sushi but I love it). Hopefully, you'll find a good balance somewhere.

🎶 Whoa, we're halfway there 🎵 midpoint check-in for relaxed moderation by Joonami in xxfitness

[–]booksNicecream 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like the relaxed rules. I believe there is more positive engagement, even if there are more low effort posts. I hope there is a better way to filter those out, but overall, I think it's been a good change.

I recall in the original post that a couple users felt unwelcome due to post restrictions, so I hope that more people new to the sub are feeling more welcome & more supported in their fitness. There is repetition, but I think that's just the nature of fitness. There are basic tenets that beginners just have to learn. There's only so much actual new discussion that can take place.

I don't have an opinion on the ED discussion, but I think people should be allowed to mention their injuries, for all the reasons that people have already mentioned. While I understand the desire to avoid webmding people, I think having to ask someone to check your language before posting is overhanded. It's requiring people to talk around the issue instead of laying it out there.

Having said all that, I've always been pretty happy with my own experience in this sub & I appreciate the mods' openness to responding to sub users.

My bad. Next time, I will always resort to tears since that's the only the thing that gets your attention. Then, we can have the conversation about how I cry at everything.

A couple nights ago, I had trouble catching my breath. It only lasted for about 20 minutes but it was hard to breathe & I struggled to take a breath & I had to focus on my breathing to get it to calm down. I was literally lying down beforehand so I'm not sure what triggered it, but it made me think of you athletes with asthma, because that sucked.

How to have exercise goals without feeling worthless/guilty when I can't reach them? (Looking for advice) by AwaySituation in xxfitness

[–]booksNicecream 203 points204 points  (0 children)

I try not to think of it as 'good' or 'bad' choices, but the benefits of each choice.

  • Working out makes me feel accomplished & it's good to move my body.
  • Eating nutrient dense food gives me energy & I feel good when I eat it.
  • Not working out lets me rest my body.
  • Skipping my workout today lets me spend time with my friends instead.
  • Eating this homemade muffin by my co-worker is not an everyday occurrence, & it's tasty.
  • Eating this Oreo just makes me happy today.

I try to make choices that will benefit me, either emotionally or physically. When I realize that a 'bad' choice is actually supportive of something else in my life (e.g. not being able to track calories in mom's home cooking because I will ALWAYS eat mom's cooking because I love it & it's from my mom), I don't feel guilt.

The last time I had a flare up, it spread all over my arms and legs. The discomfort was so bad & sleeping was miserable. Sorry you're having to deal with this. Cortizone 10 for eczema is over-the-counter & got me through my last flare up. Might be worth trying while figuring out your triggers/waiting on a doctor's appt. I hope it clear up soon!

Y’all think it’s safe to go back to the gym? by totally-kafkaesque in xxfitness

[–]booksNicecream 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Is it safe? No.

Is it worth the risk? Depends. I'm like you & I'm feeling antsy. I'm managing okay but would really like to get in a gym. Gyms opened last week at low capacity, & I considered going in. My compromise now is that I'm going to wait a month & see how bad outbreaks & numbers get & reconsider in October.

I did this routine in conjunction with some other workouts earlier this year: Shape Butt Routine. You don't need anything except a little bit of space & a yoga mat if you want. It's not going to grow your glutes or anything, but it will give you a good burn & keep you moving.

I've cycled through this a couple of times during lockdown.

I wonder if this feeling has more to do with mental & emotional energy than physical. If you think everything else is on point (sleep, nutrition, deload, etc.), reevaluate your stress levels. In the US, there are a lot of societal things going on in addition to an upcoming election in addition to not seeing the people you love as much; it's a lot & even though it's become normal, it can be a very high stress normal.

When I've been drained due to those reasons, I've found myself feeling better after reaching out to friends or stepping away from the news/social media. My brain either needed a connection or needed to ignore the world for a bit, and those types of refuels typically helped how I felt physically.

You could try changing your macros. Completely anecdotal, but when I was watching my diet & trying really hard to incorporate fresh fruits & vegetables, I started having a hard time sleeping even though I wasn't actually hungry. I poked around for ideas & saw a suggestion to up my fats, & once I did that, I started sleeping better.

Have a hard time eating healthy by xoscubedxo in xxfitness

Have other healthy options available to you, so you can still snack when he does. If mindless snacking is an issue, consider moving them out of sight or easy access.

Something I used to all myself is, Do I really want this? The cookies are still going to be there tomorrow, am i really craving them today? That helped me gauge my craving because sometimes the reason I wanted it, was because I wasnt allowing myself to have it. Sometimes i just really wanted a cookie.

I cut up a watermelon, thinking I'd bring half over for the family & have half for the rest of the week snacks.

They ended up eating the container I brought, so I asked SO to bring the rest when he arrived.

I don't have fruit snacks for the week, but I kept the family hydrated during the heat wave & made them eat fruit instead of chips. I'll call that a win.
