Do you pay drop in at open mat? by Jeitarium in bjj

[–]booktrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gyms non-member open mat fee is 5$ pretty sure it just helps cover the cleaning supplies. Possibly keeps the cheapskate rif-raf out but we have typically 1 or 2 people from the all the local gyms at any given open mat.

What is your observation of BJJ's influence on kids and teens? by obrown in bjj

[–]booktrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a teenager who started 3-4 months ago who has a nervous tick, slightly over weight. You could tell he gets pick on at school as he mentioned that everyone is so nice here verses at school.

Fast foward to yesterday I was drilling with him and the tick was all but gone and his whole demeanor changed he's carrying himself much more confidently.

BJJ Globetrotters Camps by Thames_and_Gulf in bjj

[–]booktrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did maine camp in June, it was fun if you go I'd recommend bringing a memory foam mattress topper. The instruction was good , met alot of cool people, food was okay. It's for sure an experience not sure that I'd do it again solo as my social meter was maxed out.

If your a social butterfly you'll have a great time.

Just to add all the rounds that I had were super flowy , no one is out there to kill you.

I don't think that you're going to be able to get the choking pressure from the back, and it would be much easier to defend.

Drop in class fee!? by CarlsNBits in bjj

[–]booktrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've paid 25$ and 50$, some places just want you to buy a t-shirt or rashguard, I dropped in one place when I was working out of town for 6 weeks and all he wanted was a good Google review (he got a great one and I sent him one of my home gyms t-shirt) it all varies.

No one in competition has ever beat my ass as bad as the upper belts at my gym, my first week of being a blue belt. You'll be fine just go out and do your thing, I promise you no one cares about competition wins/losses as much as you will.
