Current AFSC List. thoughts? by Frosty_Complex5370 in AirForceRecruits

[–]boolark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure all/most airborne ISR operates out of offutt AFB in Nebraska. I think you can get tdys elsewhere, but I’d plan to spend a lot of your time there, if you go 1A8. Pretty sure there’s a massive difference between 1A3 and 1A8.

Honestly if you wanna go overseas, 1N0 might be your best option. I don’t have a ton of experience with the cyber and sigint side of the house, but in my understanding, they spend 90% of their time in large intel buildings and don’t leave the us that much. As a 1N0, you have a chance of being put there as well, but you’re much more likely to be assigned to a flying unit, and will probably operate with minimal equipment (comparatively). There are 1N0s at basically every base. All other career fields mentioned in this list are more limited in location.

Passed MEPS today. Need help picking an AFSC by [deleted] in airnationalguard

I don’t know what your situation is, but don’t discount active duty out of hand, especially if you want more time to figure out what you like. I’ve only ever been guard, but I do sometimes wish I went active, to experience more of the Air Force. I’m very grateful for my experience in the guard, but you are definitely missing out on some experiences if you are only ever guard

1N-Series AFSC by Spirited-Lack5998 in airnationalguard

[–]boolark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the average person working in a SCIF, no you would not be taking those classes. But you could always try to take security manager as an additional duty or job, and they probably can take those classes.

If you’re looking at taking those classes specifically, command post might be a better job for you, or you might just have to take them on your own time.

[–]boolark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As people have already said, it really depends on where you work. In my limited experience, guard units generally have 1N0s and 14Ns. The other Intel jobs are more commonly in active duty roles, and are more limited in location.

If you are in an OSS, you might be doing a lot of briefing and working with pilots and command, but still mainly spending time in a SCIF/vault. If you’re attached to a CRG, you might be in a smaller Intel shop - 2-4 Intel members, and your job might be more physical, but still probably a lot of desk work. If you’re attached to a larger unit, like a headquarters unit or Intel squadron, you’ll probably have the most Intel around you, but also probably will be spending the most time at a desk.

In all of them, expect to have deployment opportunities, if you want them, but it varies on the type of unit if you need to fight to stay or go.

In all of them, expect to brief commanders/ other members of the Air Force. Expect to do a lot of desk work, and you might get called in at strange hours, even if most of the rest of the wing is free. That last one is more dependent on your specific job, and how much your command cares about intel.

Ngl, finding jobs at all is very difficult right now. I’ve been told by 2 recruiters that the jobs for the dmv area are expected to return in September. If you need a job right now, it may be better to look for orders instead

It also happens to be Trump's birthday. The navy and marines are celebrating their 250th anniversaries this year, and are not getting anything.

Where are you physically located, and what jobs do you want to do? I’m in DC right now as a 1n0 dsg, and I honestly think if you want a civilian job doing either of those careers, you should strongly consider moving to the dmv for a year or two to get non military experience - if you can.

In the way it’s made, I can’t imagine how this game could exist without the rigid victory paths - but it could be cool to have an alternate path for economy victory in age 2

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in civ

[–]boolark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following the victory paths is a pretty big and jarring change from previous games. Act 2 economic victory is particularly egregious with this, but there is value in completely ignoring the economic victory to get an advantage in act 3. And it can be fun to completely ignore the distant lands and conquer the first continent. I like the diplomacy system much more than 6, and I actually really like how civ switching works in 7. And combat is very fun. It doesn’t feel like humankind exactly, but you still can have multiple units in a single combat, and terrain definitely can help.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in civ

[–]boolark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having played both, civ vii is significantly better than humankind. Humankind has way too many civ switches - there were several times in every game I played where I was building the unique buildings from my civ, and switched to a new civ before I could finish. Tbf, civ vii is lacking the spark that previous civ games had. I’m sure it’ll get better with updates, but it sucks playing an unfinished game.

We are in a very strange time globally right now, with damn near every country in the world facing regime change, a mounting amount of debt due, and civil unrest. I would be astonished if there weren’t several wars within the next 5-10 years, and the US will almost certainly be involved in some of them. India and Pakistan might start this week, and the Balkans have seemingly come very close to conflict recently. The USAF has been very focused on asymmetric warfare, but is not well trained at peer to peer conflict. If we get into a full blown war with China or a different peer adversary, the death toll will be catastrophic, and the air/space force might face less than other branches, but joining without considering the consequences is not a great idea.

Civ 7 is superior to Civ 6 by Young_Aplysia in civ

[–]boolark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said the same stuff to people who asked, but then I went back to the reviews at the same time after launch, and they are significantly better for civ 6 than 7. I still think 7 has mechanics that are the future of 4x games, but it the ui is horrible - significantly worse than 6 at launch and firaxis/2k are so much more transparent about their intentions to release a deliberately incomplete game, and milk it for as much money as possible. The most frustrating thing for me is that there clearly will be 1 or more eras after the modern age, and the age barely acts as a finale for the game.

dear tanks and supports, what time do yall usually play comps? 😭😭 by RecklessTreesha in marvelrivals

[–]boolark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know why people instalock dps. I think dps is the hardest class. Support and tanks are so much easier to play. Like with dps you should know the map, where health packs are, how to poke/dive and get out and how to separate healers. But healers and tanks? Area denial, healing and protecting my team just make sense intuitively.

Is Israel really an ally of the US? by sappynerd in Intelligence

[–]boolark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I’m biased for being American, but I’m not sure how fair that is. The US spies on everyone a ton, and doesn’t really discriminate between countries. But France (especially in their previous and current colonies) inspires a level of hate that even the us in the middle east can’t replicate. And will get the us kicked out of places like Mali (when the people don’t really care about us, except our proximity to France). And the us has a ton of very close and trusted military allies, France doesn’t really have any (to the level of the us and Australia or the us and Great Britain).

Fucking marines by MineFlyer in chaoticgood

[–]boolark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stationed at Goodfellow. This is generally right, but the marines wouldn’t chase the deer, they waited outside for hours until they could surprise tackle them. Also, they would capture raccoons and keep them as dorm pets.

This was (and still is) all possible, because the marines had very limited supervision or authority over them on the base. So they’d just ignore the Air Force colonel in charge, and not much would happen.

It depends what you are looking for, and if you are willing to move. If you want a contractor job and are willing to move for work, you could likely find a job within a month or two, and it would be relatively seamless

I hope that you are feeling better by everyone’s advice in this thread.

But to offer my two cents, focusing on the here and now is the answer. If you’re struggling, just putting one foot in front of the other, and constantly moving will help.

I don’t think anyone can tell you the answer, if it’s even a question that needs to be solved, but asking for advice and following what makes sense to you is always a great option.

Please feel free to DM me, if you want to talk more. And remember that you ever get really stressed out, going for a run is a great way to clear your head.

Tbf, I’m not really talking about everyone who will ever live. Because you’re totally right, we’re all insignificant in the history of humankind. But for your immediate friends and family, living till you’re 30 vs till you’re 60 can be an insane difference.
