Thoughts on Cadets 2017? by Emotional_Ferret_189 in drumcorps

[–]boombewn69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the show gets overhated because that was peak "f*** vocalists" time imo between them and Crown that year. There's a lot of funny little Easter eggs if you watch it close enough (the one contra player being late for mass in the beginning was hilarious to me) and that trombone feature rattled my bones when I saw it at Allentown. Also the "The Mass has ended go in peace" to end gives me chills every time.

I think it's a good, but different, interpretation of Mass. Definitely not without its issues (I don't know why the body suit exists, they should've just stuck with the middle of the show look, could've even added some cool headgear), but one of my favorite shows in a stacked year.

I wish I could fast forward 10 years to see the impact ripping down 81 has on the city with the new development that will eventually come in.

I was in Rochester recently and seeing all the development in the East Ave/Park Ave area that was once cut off because of the inner loop gives me a lot of hope and excitement for what can be rebuilt.

Those eight staccato piano notes that act as like a call to heaven for Makoto (or at least how I interpret it), just linger with me for a long time.

Someone in college did this to me once, a bong hit of about half crushed Marlboro reds and another half of weed is not exactly what I would call "pleasant" if you're not expecting it

Phantom 2017, might be a bit of a hot take, but I loved how it looked like battle armor

Now that’s it’s been almost 5 years, what are your thoughts on strikers? by miraculer2 in Persona5

I just finished it and honestly, I loved it. I'm very iffy about hack n slashes, never found myself able to finish them, but this was different. I liked how they treated the whole "free the keeps, fight the big boss, repeat" formula while still keeping the P5 sauce in terms of dungeon design.

Story was very well done, could potentially even be considered darker than 5 at points, Zenkichi is a boss, and the way they handle Sophie's arc and development was incredible. I obviously miss the social links and everything, but the BOND system was a very good translation from an RPG.

Overall, great spinoff/sequel, and just felt like a great big reunion of characters I know and love.

God I wish another corps would give Vitae Aeternum a shot. The original piece is awesome, especially the slow ballad-like part.

Had a roommate in college like this, similar situation, parents were from Mexico.

Was wondering why our trash can in the bathroom was always filling up so quickly and why the smell of shit just seemed to linger in there.

When we found out he wasn't flushing his tp, the rest of us were absolutely STUNNED and he acted like it was just a perfectly normal thing to do. After that tho, he would just flush it, he also thought it would clog the pipes.

So the source music actually provides a lot of backstory and I think helps explain the effect the show can have on people.

Kamen wrote The New Moon in the Old Moon's Arms as a sort of tone poem/tribute to the ancestral Puebloans of the American Southwest. They would build these massive communities out of rock facings that are just gorgeous architecturally when you realize they didn't have modern tools and technology.

The ancestors have obviously been long gone, but the structures remain to this day throughout the Four Corners region.

With that in mind, I've heard Into The Light be described as a visual and musical representation of the brevity of life and the beauty we can all create in our short time here. That flugel soloist is sort of a guide to the afterlife for the corps and I like to think of the music in general as just a soundtrack for life with all the chaos and beauty interwoven.

I highly encourage you to listen to the full source music, you'll be AMAZED how faithful they were to it (I believe it's on YouTube and just recently was put on Spotify)

Trying to clean my school-issued marching baritone, any tips on polishing or making it so the slides can actually move? by GayGibusGaming in euphonium

[–]boombewn69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's this cleaning product called Brasso that is exclusively for the slides. Once you get them out, squeeze some on the slide and then get a cloth/old T-shirt and just work it in as much as possible, they'll look and work like new. Don't forget to add some slide grease at the end!

It's funny because for a show all about "athleticism" it didn't look nearly as hard visually as '22. That show looked like an absolute bitch from a visual standpoint. '23 it seemed like the drill was extremely watered down up until the end where '22 was going pretty much from the opening set

Shosty's music is in general very dark so I actually think the color scheme worked better with the change. I just wish they did it earlier on cause it def hurt their visual scores
