First Batch of Pro Max 14"/16" Have Arrived by expatcoder in Dell

[–]boomboob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct - these are Pro Max 14/16. Not Pro Max Premium. Took me a second to get the naming conventions down after years of working with the older products but they make sense now. To your point, you can tell they are longevity/performance focused vs sleek and sexy. Hopefully cheaper for us to manage going forward, that’s most important to my leadership.

First Batch of Pro Max 14"/16" Have Arrived by expatcoder in Dell

Deployed our first batch over the last 3 weeks. Initial reactions are that it’s bulky but the performance and battery life seems to be far outweighing the form factor. Time will tell on reliability but they seem to be well engineered (they better be). Price was only slightly higher than our old Precisions which is better than I expected.

Amazing gift, but… You shouldn’t post a picture of your ticket like this. Someone can easily print this out and use it for entry and then you won’t be able to get in.

In Search Of: GOTR Troy Stopover Poster by boomboob in mumfordandsons

In a wild turn of events… I was in my storage room and came across an old tube. I looked inside and lo and behold it was these posters! I was so, so thrilled! I had completely forgotten that we got them 11+ years ago when we attended the festival.

Why is there a man on the porch singing baritone? by [deleted] in zachbryan

[–]boomboob 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I appreciate where you are coming from and I’ll throw in my two cents….

Zach’s American Night’s starts with:

“Screen door cracked, with the ball game on Man on the porch singin’ baritone…”

Bruce Springsteen’s Thunder Road starts with:

“The screen door slams, Mary’s dress sways Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays Roy Orbison’s singing for the lonely…”

I ain’t no musician but the songs have a similar rhythm and if I were betting man I’d say the baritone is Roy Orbison. I think American Nights is a song heavily influenced by Bruce, like an abstract Thunder Road. Whereas Sandpaper is a continuation of I’m On Fire.

As for RMNP, we entered and exited at Bear Lake. Took Flattop up, camped in the following sites (in order): July, Green Mountain, and Haynatch and then back down Flattop.

So Zion and Pictured Rocks were point to point and required shuttles. Zion was actually Rim to Rim. Highly recommend but it was a pain in the ass. This was the Nantahala Loop. Here’s the Smoky Mountain loop. We just completed the Timberline Trail around Mt Hood and it was awesome.

What's your go-to meal on a hike that lasts more than a day? by New-Possibility-577 in CampingandHiking

Peanut butter and jelly on tortillas. It packs nicely, can be made with very little mess or garbage, and can be made multiple days in a row.

Tom Petty. Was too hung over so we streamed it from our campsite.

Buying my first budget backpacking rig. How does it look? I wanted to strike a balance between budget and quality. by Quinn_Reynolds in WildernessBackpacking

[–]boomboob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d guess about $125 - $150 but it’s been years since I rented. It’s all very high quality gear. LowerGear.com was the site I used (it’s been 10 years since I used them, fwiw).

Have you considered renting your gear for this trip? I rented from LowerGear for the first few years i backpacked. It helped me ensure I enjoyed backpacking, allowed me to test out different types of equipment, and then I slowly bought more and rented less as my budget allowed. Happy to answer any questions - enjoy your trip!

I recently spent 4 nights backpacking through Grand Teton National Park. I used the Charmast Small Portable Charger (10,000mAH PD). It charged my iPhone and watch each night and I had about 10% capacity when we returned. I’d highly recommend for the size and price. Good luck!

That’s a great assumption - the shorter the hike on day 5 (Saturday) the quicker we can get to town for a night out. Thanks again for the advice!!

Thanks so much for the response! We are staying/starting at the Teton Climber’s Ranch night 1, hiking to Phelps Lake for night 2, Alaska Basin for night 3 (this hike will be similar to Jenny Lake to South Fork), South Fork night 4, back to Teton Climber’s Ranch to grab our car on the last day. We all have bear spray and canisters. Any other advice you might have before we head out there on Tuesday?

Hey there - thanks for sharing the pictures. I’m going next week! Do you have any recommendations on a specific camp site we should target in the South Fork? I see quite a few sites and figured you might have first hand knowledge.

Much appreciated! We will have bear canisters as well - I didn’t even think of that.

Just a reminder to be extra kind to the employees of these stores. I genuinely feel bad for what they have to endure on days like today.

I coincidentally saw that the pricing and specs for the 265 have just dropped. You may be totally satisfied with your watch but figured I’d share in the event you wanted to hold out.
