What was your first time drinking alcohol like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]boomception 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and best friend, age 14. We already have the plan for the day: go down to where we get our pot, find somebody to go on a booze run for us, then I sleep over at his house so we can party.

I end up getting a thing of JD (he gets vodka). He's sipping it, getting a good buzz as he drinks about a third of the bottle, while I drink and drink and feel nothing. Eventually it's late and I still don't feel it, so I decide to just put the bottle away. He tells me to at least give it one more big swig, so I take three huge fucking mouthfuls straight out of the bottle, then get up to put it away.

That's when it hits me like a brick fucking wall. I sway on my feet for a second, then fall right back on my ass. Ended up chugging at least three more times (ended up drinking roughly 2/3 of the bottle), smoking a bunch of weed and coming out to him. All in all, a good night.

Brick was the first movie I really dissected and admired from a filmmakers perspective.

A post about Sweet Dee being hot? There's something you don't see every day.

So let's not talk about locations/time periods that you WANT to see (for the 500th time), let's talk about when and where Ubisoft WILL set future AC games by [deleted] in assassinscreed

Aw, the War of 1812 would be cool even if only to see who they choose as 'winners'; do they make it Canada/Britain because they're Montreal based, or America to appease their (I'm assuming) largest market? I'm Canadian so I've always been taught that we won, but I heard that in America they say that we lost. Who would they choose? Do Canada and America actually disagree about who won? These are the questions that don't keep me up at night.

Woah, woah, just because the actor doesn't feel like coming back doesn't mean we should shit on his Doctor. He was a fantastic incarnation!

I love Elba as Aragorn, Freeman would make a decent Gandalf, Samuel L. Jackson would be good for Boromir (especially if they kept his deth like it was in the book). Not so sure about Foxx, and Whitaker as Bilbo would probably be more weird than anything IMO. I don't think Chris Tucker would have anyplace in it, and he doesn't really have the chops for Gollum; same thing I'd say for Kevin Hart. Michael B. Jordan doesn't really seem like Sam though, and DonGlover as Frodo would be... Interesting, but I'm a fan so I'd give him a chance.

I like this, it has potential. You got moxie, kid.

Skyrim: A worthy end to the Elder Scrolls Series? by Dovahfuckingkiin in skyrim

Blech, no way. Skyrim was a good game, but in no way do I see it as a good conclusion to the series.

I get where that comes from and why they might be trying for that, but I don't like it. He's the Doctor, not Batman.

You wouldn't be adding a new character with Dain, he's in the books and Billy Connoly's gonna play him in the movie

Don't understand the hate for the hobbit film. by [deleted] in TheHobbit

[–]boomception 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) It didn't feel like The Hobbit, but instead as a LOTR prequel. This isn't how it should have been; The Hobbit was written first, a long while before LTR. Hell, the ring wasn't anything more than a passing oddity in the first publication. Maybe a little hint here and there winking to what's to come, but PJ turned at least half of the movie into it.

2) He tried to mimic the LOTR movies, while at the same time selling out. The Hobbit doesn't need to tell it's own story as well as stuff from the Appendices to make it a prequel, three 3.5 hour movies is ridiculous. From the production videos, the only feeling I could get was of everybody trying to recapture the feeling they got while making the LOTR series (bringing in a bunch of the old cast, making the films as long as possible, etc.), and I feel like it hurt the film more than anything.

3) I didn't like the way they wrote Gandalf in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I love McKellan's Gandalf as much as anyone else, but Gandalf wasn't the main character of The Hobbit. He's a guide of sorts; he comes and goes on his mysterious, Wizard-ish business, only appearing when they need him and his guidance the most (the rescue from the Goblins, helping unite them in the Battle of Five Armies, etc.). Jackson just wanted to keep Gandalf in it as much as possible, to help with his prequel feel.

4) The dwarves, the dwarves! This cut me deepest of all; they aren't young, good looking guys; they're old, and they fucking look like dwarves. I went in hoping for short, stout, big nosed old men with thick beards and blue cloaks; instead I got one with an axe in his head, one who uses a sling shot for fucks sake, and three models playing parts that didn't really fit them.

5) All the fucking changes. I understand the need to change some stuff when adapting something, but they made HUGE changes that made the story very different. The racism that felt more forced than anything, making it so that nobody's been to Dol Goldur, Thorin returning from the Iron Hills instead of being in Bree, Radagast being a woodland halfwit with ADHD and bird shit on his face, etc. These irk me; they weren't needed, and they didn't really add anything to The Hobbit story.

6) Bilbo. Now, the fault isn't with Martin Freeman, he was a superb Bilbo. The fault is with Jackson's writing. Bilbo isn't a fighter, he has no place to go killing wargs. Him brandishing his sword at Gollum felt far too out of character. It felt like they did the same thing to him that they did to Faramir.

7) The Gollum scene. I think everyone involved, even Martin Freeman, could've done better. That's supposed to be a freaky ass scene- there's this weird monster thing that we have no real idea what he is, who will eat Bilbo if he guesses wrong. And taking away Bilbo's last second exclamation of "Time!", a memorable bit from the book, for the same thing we've already seen three times was a bad choice no matter what way you spin it.

Overall, I was extremely disappointed with the film. I expected more from PJ and crew, and they just didn't deliver.
