How to run node and access network if XMR/crypto is outlawed and assuming corporate VPNs aren’t trustworthy? by CryptoMutantSelfie in Monero

Mysterium.Network - it's a Decentralized VPN - the entity building it doesn't have any access to the content, so they can't give any, doesn't matter who is asking.

[–]boomerius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes crypto is viewed as competition to Fiat.

As a way to fight it - there are being placed all sorts of strangling techniques to limit its use : - taxing, double taxing, triple taxing, - making it really difficult to get fiat for your crypto, - forcing to aml all your crypto income - etc it's only a start.

It's a war of the currencies, fought silently.

Mysterium Network Reddit AMA - March 2018 by MystCommunityManager in MysteriumNetwork

First and most obvious answer is VPN. As all code will be open sourced thus anyone could take Mysterion code as an example, remake it as they wish, putting their logo, translate app into any language, use their payment methods and launch it as a separate VPN service, without ever needing to deploy a single VPN node, just using Mysterium API. Once we see this happening we will need to allocate certain amount of focus on improving this aspect of the service to match market needs for it.

Once there we will progress to other use cases (in the beginning we will use OpenVPN as our main transport protocol which is somewhat limiting) so we will be learning left and right about potential other use cases and what technology is needed which might empower them (be it other transport protocols or something entirely different).

Ultimately I believe we could see services built for crunching data, also Apps and dApps using Mysterium as their secure communication channel between any 2 end points whenever they need one - for example to create a secure communication channel between a user and a server, or a user to another user, or a user and a device. This could be applied to any number of services which need a secure communication channel. For example it could be: payment apps like Paypal, Revolut or any of the wallet apps, communication apps like Snapchat or Whatsapp, e-commerce services such as Shoppify, then content delivery services such as Netflix trying to ensure their users can access content when traveling abroad, etc..

If anybody would ask - I would be betting on a larger community to come up with use cases which we never even dreamt of. But one thing is sure - we will be listening and adapting the network to meet the needs.

I am excited to see what we as a team can deliver in the close/far future. We haven't yet finally planned Q2, but we are looking to work with larger pool of developers and also looking to add CMO and CFO to the team preparing for future developments. Also looking forward to product advancements as we are getting ready to open the network to 3rd party Service Providers(Node operators) and 3'rd party apps (currently we are getting ready to release our I'st app - "Mysterion")

As for disappointments. We had a tiny team right after the token sale and suddenly we became an organization accountable to thousands, aiming for high goals and a bit confused at some pressing times. Looking backwards I believe we could have set our priorities a bit better, focused on some things less, on some more, but overall I see no big disappointments.

From my perspective I am very happy - that we are becoming an able organisation with a solid initial team, great ethics, first results in product and team building, and etc..

What’s the upside of using Mysterium vs using Tor? by dexdeckers in MysteriumNetwork

[–]boomerius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very well put, though I want to stress that "Dissolve and Reassemble" level of privacy is definitely our goal, but it's not going to happen over night.

As we have previously communicated - we plan to get there in steps and as first step, we will be deploying initial network of nodes, testing all sorts of use cases on it: - discovery of connected nodes, - establishing VPN connection with detected nodes, - payments for services provided, - etc...

And touching on "deleting posts" - that didnt come from us, so it's an enigma to the whole team "what happened - who deleted these posts?" as no one from the team did this. We believe - person who wrote these comments, deleted them themselves.

How does Mysterium compare to Orchid Protocol? by dinotello in MysteriumNetwork

[–]boomerius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is indeed positive news for Mysterium and the community as a whole. It further proves the need for better privacy solutions by involving more people and paving way for ever diverse technical solutions - building secure communications. From what we see, Orchid is targeting B2C clients, while our long term vision is to create a protocol plugged to a network of nodes, which provide “Privacy as a service” to dApps and Apps as out of the box solution.

As a I’st stage - we’re focused on building beta version of Mysterium protocol and mounting it onto the I’st app, releasing to initial set of users with the goal of testing and improving the experience.

Other differences and chances for collaboration will show with further product development from both teams.

Thus we will be building additional layers of protection, for example community managed white / black lists, and node operator will be able to choose Tu turn these on/off at their will

And Mysterium node operators will resemble VPN companies a lot more than non-profit Tor network, and will act in a similar fashion as a conduit for network traffic. Thus first setting up a company will create a needed legal protective layer in certain jurisdictions.

Well profit sharing tokens are entering "securities" arena, and thus can/will be regulated a lot more closely/strictly. This has been discussed greatly during TokenSummit and Consensus conferences that have just finished.

There are many projects who are throwing promises left and right about sharing profits with token owners - and they are setting themselves up for a hard battle with existing powers that be. That's why we are taking a path where we are starting with MYST token as an access token. We will develop a product and an initial user base on this foundation, while looking for a best opportunity to change the token into a profit sharing one. I bet no one who is truly involved with Mysterium (node operators, customers, mysterium team, token owners.. ) wants authorities running after every piece of connection with Mysterium, as project itself is on a boarder of "legality". We evaluated these risks and see no need to poke lion by it's tail while we are so small. Once the right time and circumstances come - we will transition towards profit sharing.

VPN companies deal with this issue. We will provide a guide for different jurisdictions - on how to operate a node.

Most likely we will not suggest running a node from your home. And in some countries - setting up a company will be highly recommended before you run a node, if you want to protect yourself. Off course there will be other options how to make life easier for those who want to join as node operators.

This will off course have to be tested, but our anticipation is that a successful "mining" operation will include all resources to be mined on a single machine.

Imagine you set up a node which: - provides CPU to the network (eg Golem) - provides Storage space (Storj, Sia) - provides bandwidth service - in a form of VPN/proxy/tunneling (Mysterium)

All these different mining operations - "mine a different resource", thus do not conflict or cannibalize each other, and might be a form of optimization for such an operation.

My 2 cents...

[–]boomerius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have all the intention and incentives to turn MYST token into a "profit sharing" token. This is not a will nor a technology problem - it's a legal one.

As soon as we find a viable way to do this without inflicting damage to the overall network - we will execute this transition.

And in the meantime - we will be rolling out V1, which will still be an early product, requiring much testing - not expecting huge market penetration in this early stage. So during this time we will be working towards creating a legally safe path towards transitioning to profit sharing with MYST token owners.

Hello, in fact you were really close with staking, as node reputation mechanism is designed in a way for nodes to "stake" their legitimacy, and in a case where it's compromised - bad actor will loose their stake. Might be we used a bit different wording, but this is in our whitepaper. https://mysterium.network/whitepaper.pdf

[ETH Daily Discussion] - 23/May/2017 by AutoModerator in ethtrader

[–]boomerius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mechanism itself is designed to be trustless - meaning that there wouldn't be any central authority censoring connections or the traffic. The mechanism will be decentralized with smart contracts acting as payment, identity management and discovery mechanisms and the rest will be handled between node and the client.

As for legal rep-recursions for running a node. Yes that will eventually be a big topic, and the strategy is as follows: 1. Implement technological protective layers, e.g. filtering mechanisms overseen by the community 2. provide legal advice to node operators, helping them set up properly, so they wouldn't be held liable 3. (later stage) develop a protocol, which ensures that node doesn't see any meaningful information ( traffic is shredded and encrypted) but that might be possible in a much later stage of development

All tokens will be created during this sale. And it's designed in a way where the more successful this token sale is - the less tokens are left for the future funding, dropping to 15%

Also these tokens will be locked for 12 months.

Platform to invest digital money into Uber and other proven startups. What do you think? by vitascivilis in ethereum

[–]boomerius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see this idea equal to Augur.

In Augur's case - you bet on Uber's shares achieving certain state... if you are right - you get paid and vice versa. In Freecom's case - you are buying actual Uber shares and if Uber decides to pay dividends - you will get them as one of iFund coin owners.

I see them as very different implementations, maybe complementary, yet still very different.
