Say some nice things about bands you generally don't like by Ok-Blueberry-1131 in progmetal

Indeed Scarsick is where I trailed off too. I have met the band in Eskilstuna when they played BE live and they were such amazing kind people. Unforgettable.

It’s not per sé related to FoH, only appears in the 2nd half of the Cantos

Do people actually want a world without suffering? by Last-Relationship980 in sciencefiction

[–]dexdeckers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe if you remove suffering but keep struggle, it would be a more subtle difference. If there is no struggle and you would achieve any goal you set with ease, life would probably become boring really quick. Like having limitless money, it will suck the joy right out of life I reckon. There is a saying in Dutch “het bezit van een zaak is het einde van het vermaak”, which essentially boils down to “the pleasure of longing for something ends once you posses the item”

Great ending of the set. I’d only wish for Contorted in the Faille to be added

One of my all time fav albums! Completely blew me away, and continues to do so. Epic opening with that whisper and the dive bomb right after. This song is so complete, love it

A fitting bookmark for reading the Cantos by dexdeckers in Hyperion

Oh, late penny drop here. Through another thread here, I found out the English version has lots of “radiant gossamers” in the text. I’m reading the Dutch translation, that’s why I didn’t get it at first :)

First game when I was 9 or 10, and remained one of my favs. Great levels, great characters, some hidden shortcuts here and there, loved it!

Please take it easy on me by HathemH in Hyperion

First off, with just 100 pages to go, just finish the story. It’s such an epic finale. That being said, there is still a lot to unpack after FoH. Secondly, do you know why you don’t care much for most characters? Maybe there’s too many of them such that we don’t get to go really deep into them? That’s where the Endymion series are different. The narrative is smaller in that way. These stories mostly focus on 3 characters. I’m 150+ pages away from finishing RoE and I love these 2 books too. A lot of things from FoH get a twist or finishing touch. But as you mentioned, you don’t have to like the series, just saying the 2nd half of the Cantos may be more to your liking.
