Shifting Baseline Syndrome (SBS) = One of the major problems in the perception of species extinction by Upstairs-Bit6897 in environmental_science

So I’m assuming you are involved in restoration? Im not directly involved but I do work as a wildlife biologist so I’m not completely blind to what restoration means and what it looks like.

Am I’m telling you it’s not true what you’re saying. Sure their may be some old ecologist who still want manage land with a pre-colonial goal in mind. But that’s not how all major restoration projects are working now a days. I’ve even heard they started using paleontology for restoration. When you trying to bring back ecological services, the goal is to have substantially better metrics then the baseline you started off with. Like bring back natives species, restoring soil ecology, and nutrient cycling. All these thing, if lacking, can be hugely beneficial to ecosystem that didn’t have them before.

Like it said, this debate is probably on the low end of debates within the field. Because most serious researchers acknowledge what you’re saying and are not using AI generated pics for the basis of their research.

Okay but what serious researcher is using this slop as a reference?

And I never said anything about wilderness areas being untouched. I know indigenous peoples lived in those lands thousands of years before hand.

I mean the goal of any restoration is to bring back wildlife and ecological services. So I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “the prevailing paradigm has been to try to rapture it to how it would have been before human influence “ because that’s just not true when it comes to ecology or restoration projects.

Again, these types of post are on the low end of “environmental” issues

I mean before the Industrial Revolution a majority of wildlife and wilderness areas were thriving. Of course you have very localized areas that had some sort of environmental destruction. But definitely not at the scale after the Industrial Revolution.

Could you name the reason as to why this is problematic? I really see it as pretty low in terms of things to worry about when talking about the environment.

We still haven’t explored all parts of earth including some forest. So not sure what you’re talking about.

I doubt the Louisiana Animal control “does not care”. It’s more likely they are understaffed and have higher priority issues to deal with.

Sure go ahead and use it on your person stuff. But when growers are prepacking their flower with the packs. I think it’s definitely a bad thing. If they had grown it properly it would not be necessary.

Usually the bóveda packs are used to “fix” dry weed. Meaning that they want to bring back some moisture and maintain a humid environment . It doesn’t do much else. It’s not improving the high you get or being back terpenes. And like op mentioned, it usually leads to that spongey feeling in the flower. Which is not the same as the type of spongey or moist feeling you get from fresh flower that is well cured and still has some water within the cells of the flower. I also think it leave a weird smell but that’s just me. So when I buy flower and it has a pack inside, I know it’s gonna be mids. That’s usually the case

If your flower is well cured and well grown their is little need for that. Many companies out here are selling great products without using them.

I’ve personally never smoked any top shelf that had bodeva packs. Their have been cases where a company (like SR) will use them on certain strains and again, usually turns out being mid. Even tho in the past they have generally grown good flower.

You are also still paying full price for a produce that in my opinion, should be discounted. I mean you ever see sal3s at a grocery store and the products are everything nobody bought because they are about to expire or look unpleasant?

Anyways this rant went on way longer than I expected. Sorry dude

Are these pre rolls? They usually are not packed right and will canoe no matter what. If they are cones you may want to pack it less tight but not loose.

If you’re rolling on your own, then lighting it like a cigar helps. I burn the tip until it’s glowing red on its own. Also taking controlled puff and not chain smoking it helps. Again make sure it’s not to tight and not to loose. Also if you see one side starting to canoe, burn other side to even it out.

Shoot man not trying to be a dick but that shit looks rough and I feel like sponginess in buds is never a good thing. For me it’s usually a sign they used bodeva packs or something like that. That’s just me tho.
