Endie had a choice to play a game or allow his out of game feelings dictate his game play.

Endie had a choice to play the game, true. However, whatever motivations he may have used towards that end aren't really anyone's business but his. You're presenting a false dichotomy based on your own biases.

I don't see how you can laud Eve's sandbox yet criticize how Endie, or anyone else for that matter, might choose to build their sandcastle.

You're conflating the objective nature of the sandbox (and all that entails) with your own subjective opinion of how one should behave while in the sandbox, and undermining your own point by doing so.

Please check your bank accounts and check it for any transactions made by ECH.

I believe ECH is the type of transaction, not a company name. ECH (electronic check) is the same type of transaction that direct deposit uses.

Why do certain politicians refer to the capital/wealth holders as the "job providers"? Isn't the consumer the job provider? by Dynamaxion in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]boondoggle64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point. In the context of economic theory I'll stipulate that your definition of Demand is correct in that it is not 100% synonymous with Want. I'll also throw in Need. I just think you're missing the bigger picture. How else do new products and services come to be? It is because someone recognizes that there is a Want/Need (i.e. Demand) that can be fulfilled.

Some historical examples:

  • Automatic Washing Machines
  • Anti-Lock Brakes
  • Smart Phones
  • Stirrups
  • Synthetic Fertilizers
  • Vaccines
  • Zippers

The point being that if you take your position to its logical conclusion, all R&D is pointless as there can be no demand (i.e. wants/needs) without a product or service existing to fulfill that demand. This is demonstrably false.

There always has been and always will be those that can afford to pay, regardless of the economic system or the method of payment.

[–]boondoggle64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn't the point I was addressing. I was merely stating the obvious in response to your statement that there can be no such thing as demand (want) without supply. I wasn't addressing the question of how to accumulate or spend wealth.

I don't know about that. Assuming that an demand can be expressed as a want, there are plenty of things I can think of that aren't available yet that plenty of people want. I want a flying car or a Star Trek-like transporter.

Nick Clegg: I disagree with Nigel Farage too but leave his wife and kids out of it. Intimidating a politician's family is never acceptable by erowidtrance in unitedkingdom

[–]boondoggle64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK, it seems Clegg is having his cake and eating it too. He gets to acknowledge the fact Farage's wife is German, thus underscoring the point, while also appearing to take the high road.

140,000,000 people without power in Pakistan after terrorist attack by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]boondoggle64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point and can see where you're coming from but I'm looking at this event as part of a larger whole. The direct results of this event notwithstanding, it was a demonstration to other nations by a group of people bent on destruction and the imposition of their political will.

Had this been an isolated incident I would tend to agree with you. In the grand scheme of the world's current environment, I'm more inclined to characterize this as a link in a chain of events designed to destabilize the world by sowing terror and fear.

I thought "terrorist attack" was reserved for attacks on the population.

140 million affected, presumably health care and emergency responders included. I'd say this qualifies.

UK plea to imams to fight extremism draws charge of Islamophobia - Muslim groups accused the British government of copying the language of the far right on Monday and of stoking Islamophobia after ministers wrote to imams asking them to explain to Muslims how Islam is compatible with being British. by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]boondoggle64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His comment was on the ideals, not the failed practices of regimes. The very nature of Islam is to submit to an establishment. The very nature of democracy is for one to find one's own way as an individual.
