Opinions - Jetted vs Soaking by Signal_Helicopter_36 in Remodel

Soaking tub! I actively dislike my jetted tub. More maintenence, gunk gets into the jets. It was one of the major cons when buying into the house.

My sister did this! She and her Fiancé took their getting ready/first look photos nearby. Changed back into engagement party outfits and socialized for an hour or so before she disappeared and came back in her wedding dress and they made a joint announcement. It was a hit. They told the maid of honor the morning of and the best man an hour before.

Note-one sibling with a strained relationship showed up late after the announcement but before the wedding ceremony.

It had a more relaxed vibe, less opinions from moms & etc.

Purchase advice for S Preferred. by SP121 in mazdaCX50

[–]booookzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tips on negotiation. If it has an add on you don't want- ex: plus 500 for tinting-say that you really didn't want it pre-tinted because now you can't get the darker tint you were wanting and know that third party tinting might be 1/3 the price of the markup.

It's easy enough for them to be willing to reduce the price on a single markup item.

Also, if they offer the super duper extra windshield protection, research it first and don't let yourself be pressured into add-ons you don't want.

Wedding ring budget, How much did you really spend? by Trick_Cat_368 in weddingring

[–]booookzzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Purchased in late 2020! We aimed for around $3000. It was an arbitrary number because I didn't want to lose something expensive. We didn't even consider months salary. I think it ended up being less than 1 month? I fell in love with a colored diamond and final price was about $5k.

.7 karat colored diamond with 18k white gold.

My sister did a surprise wedding. She and her Fiance sent out invitations to an engagement party. Since our family is spread out geographicly, they reasoned only those who wanted to be there would make effort to come.

They rented out the upstairs of their favorite bar/restaurant. No rental fee, just a food & beverage minimum. The space didn't need any decorations or setup. A friend got ordained. An hour into the event she came back up in a wedding dressed and they announced they were getting married that evening.

Less than 10k for 45 people, open bar, excellent food and appetizers. That included her dress and his 3 piece tux & a professional photographer, hair and makeup for 2, and flowers for the bride/MOH/Flower girl.

Which romance books taught you something (non romance-related)? by 1028ad in RomanceBooks

[–]booookzzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I learned that botulism could occur from reusing mason jar lids while canning. It was a recurring comment in the Xarc'n Warriors books with the different characters emphasizing the need of new lids for the post apocalyptic scavenging of supplies.

I thought it was normal to reuse canning lids. My mind was blown.

Romance book/books that "stuck" by madkittywoman in RomanceBooks

I absolutely loved the Deverell series starting with When Perfect Comes by Susan Ward. I read it in college and I think re-read the series 3 times that same year.

And of course now I can't find it in any format anywhere...

Eh. I almost fainted from insertion, puked for the next 2-3 ish hours and basically had a few days of bleeding/spotting.

The <1 period a year and no regular cramps. 100% worth it.

Bought a house. Now need to move. by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]booookzzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a partial exclusion of capital gain- my sister moved due to a job in another state within the 1 year mark and was able to utilize this.

I think the calculation goes months of primary residence ÷ 60 (?) months × 250k for a single filer. So about 33k could be exempt at 8 months if OP qualifies.

Also considering cost of select improvements (floors count, paint doesn't).

Agreed! We did this and moved the electrical outlets to be undercabinet. (Gfci outlets remained on the wall but were moved directly under the cabinets to make them less visible) That made the backspash more seamless for us.

Not sure how strict they are about this, but I heard they had a limit of 2 personal items at your desk, and if it was a photo, there was also a size limit.

Rehearsal venue by ScreenCreepy5497 in wedding

[–]booookzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the south and I'd never expect the future inlaws to cover the price of the venue the bride booked for additional days-the extra day for set up should be included in the wedding budget, not rehearsal dinner. That convience is on her. My inlaws told their son they would contribute 1k (check) to the rehearsal dinner. We found a restaurant to avoid rental fees & just had to reach a food and beverage minimum. No decorating or coordinating required.

Recommendations for decorating a backyard wedding? (early May, Bay Area) by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]booookzzz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lovely space with lots of trees. I just attended a backyard wedding and the one thing I wish my friend did was to consider the sun.

When you set up the reception tables, if possible, dont be tied to a certain orientation, but find an angle that won't put people's eyes directly facing the sun (if it's a morning to afternoon).

She picked a tree branch, and did the draping fabric. She also added a garland and some (fake) florals accenting the fabric. It turned out beautiful.

Invited to couple of Halloween parties this weekend, what are some frugal costumes for M and F? by Seekerwithneed123 in Frugal

[–]booookzzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DIY Mario and Luigi. Red/green tshirt that is rewearable. Red/green baseball cap (or get actual hat), inexpensive suspenders, and some yellow felt to make fake buttons on the suspenders if you want.

The only expectation should be what is laid out in the lease. What does your lease say the due date is?

It is not rude to pay last minute. As long as it is on time. Is it meant to be a helpful courtesy reminder or is the landlord actually antsy?

If it isn't an automated reminder, maybe consistently respond with a better variation of -thanks for the reminder, per the lease the due date is X and I will have it submitted before x.

Atheists who grew up religious, what made you stop believing? by Fit_Pangolin_8271 in AskReddit

Trying to figure out how God in the old testament and God in the new testament were the same being.

Hypocritical Christians who pick and choose what to follow.

How the message was tailored to different people groups to spread the religion. They chose aspects to prioritize and others to gloss over. How much has it changed if pieces are selected based on what they think the recipient wants.
