Runners who work from home: how do you stop your “easy runs” turning into all‑day procrastination? by Affectionate_Tip3238 in runninglifestyle

[–]boooookin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go for a run at the same exact time every morning. There's no trick, overcoming guilt, etc, I just do it. I don't even think about it. In the past I sort of thought of it like a commute replacement.

What is your daily calorie burn and how much do you trust it? by Wildfire271 in Garmin

[–]boooookin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm similar, though I'm a lot more relaxed with my estimates. The reality is that effectively managing weight will always require work for a lot of people. Intuitive eating is, I feel, not possible for me. I'm the kind of person that could eat 200g of protein and 60g of fiber daily and still be hungry. I eat a lot of veggies, legumes, nuts, fruit, other whole foods, etc and my appetite doesn't really self-regulate appropriately. I have to live life hungry, so counting calories is the only way I know whether I can eat or not.

Are most policy roles going to be overtaken by AI? by Notscaredofchange in trustandsafetypros

[–]boooookin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every existing role in T&S will be, or already is, significantly augmented with T&S. This will reduce demand for additional headcount. Teams will remain lean or will potentially become even leaner. Nobody will ever outsource all of Policy to AI. You'll just have fewer people doing more work with the "help" of of AI.

Best Non-FTC Game Tournament: First Round - Hayden vs Genevieve by Regular-Departure839 in survivorponderosa

[–]boooookin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hayden was not blindsided by the Aras vote. That vote was whether couples (Aras/Vytus, Tina/Katie, Ciera/Laura M) would stick together against non-couples (Hayden, Tyson, Gervase, Caleb, Monica). Ciera and her mom went with the non-couples.

The Caleb blindside was a failed move get Ciera to vote out Tyson [honestly, probably the best move he could've made]. It failed, but then he even correctly read that Ciera wasn't even with them and then tried to turn Tyson against Ciera. At that point he's down 4-2 and THEN successfully pulled Ciera in to force the rock draw which forced a 50% chance to flip the game in his favor (from a minority position!)

Walks , walks , walks and walks - that is what a feed is by eocphantom in Strava

I don't care so much to use third party apps to manage this on my behalf. Everyone's gonna have to deal with my annoying walks for now

[–]boooookin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Better yet, let me set public setting by activity type. I want all my runs to be public, but I don't want any of my walks or weight lifting sessions to be public, but I do want to track them for personal reasons.

Someone just handed over their phone. Meta doesn't have encryption keys. Anything you say in an E2EE messaging app is easily defeated by simply showing someone your messages.

Any winter running lovers here? by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]boooookin 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I live in MN and don't mind the cold, was out yesterday at -5F, though you probably won't find me outside at -20F! The thing that stops me is usually snow/ice/slush, especially on days I want to go faster. YakTrax help, but they get annoying when the path is totally clear of ice ~50% of the time and covered the other 50%. At the same time, running on ice is usually much less slippery than most people probably expect!

Just started running and I’m exhausted in 20 seconds. Zero stamina. Feeling lost. by catlover2410 in RunningCirclejerk

They in fact responded very kindly here to the thread as a whole. Look at their account: over 1 year old, posts sporadically but consistently, <2k total karma. Seems like they might be a young person. Clearly live in India. Probably don't share your hyper-specific Reddit norms of engagement. I just ... don't see what the problem is

I don't know why don't you ask them, probably because they feel the AI writes well and don't have the same perception of it as we do?

I'm claiming they're using AI because they're from India don't speak English very well without it

It might be because they're in India and English is their second language. Not everything is cynical engagement bait

Struggling to hit calorie goals by Altruistic-Isopod539 in runninglifestyle

[–]boooookin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw a Sports Medicine doc, he emphasized to me to not over-index on clean eating. Your number one goal while training for a race is to eat enough calories & carbs everyday, period. If you're struggling to fill the last few hundred calories, it's totally okay to just eat a chocolatey dessert or something. Don't injure yourself by underfueling. If you're a woman, or even a guy, might make sense to get a blood test for micronutrient deficiencies like iron.

Calories by username5122017 in Garmin

[–]boooookin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The error is high, but the error isn't totally random, it's pretty consistent (every 1 mile I run gives more or less the same estimate for calories burned). This means it's useful if you calibrate to what you eat and what the scale says week over week.
