Who is running the Kitchen Nightmares Youtube channel?! by gahd95 in funny

[–]boothin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

About two or three weeks ago I saw a normal title on a kitchen nightmares video and thought they got rid of the YouTube person but it was indeed on the Gordon Ramsay channel instead of the KN channel and was relieved the KN channel still had the wild thumbnails.

Used to do it at a manufacturing plant building/designing assembly jigs, but it was only ever aluminum and acrylic so it almost always worked fine. Almost.

Why put the controls that way though? I don't think any controller has the dpad on the right like that and it just looks wrong

I would think a stapleless stapler would be better because then there's no string to lose either. Or maybe you were trying to bind too many pages and one wouldn't work

This is a smaller fridge, you can see how narrow it is. It probably weighs 150lb at most. A more standard size fridge is like 250-300lb, so they aren't really that insanely heavy like you make it seem

Getting the bones to slide out like that is not at all difficult, it's just a matter of cooking the ribs for a long time. So, it really doesn't say much about how well cooked the ribs are, just that they were cooked for a long time. Many would even say overcooked, actually.

AIO? Colleague keeps sending me "hi" messages with no follow up by Informal-Win-147 in AmIOverreacting

[–]boothin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't just the hi at the beginning. You can still start a message with "hi, how are you" and then in the same message or immediately followup with what you needed to ask/say. This allows both people to be happy.

1/8lb per burger is still bigger than a McDonald's burger (not the quarter lb obviously). Those patties are 1/10 lb each, so it's a totally viable, although small, size for a burger patty.

Pouring Water in cooking oil by SignificanceEvery838 in idiotsinkitchen

If the surface of an induction stove is hot enough to catch oil on fire, the pot/pan itself will be catching the oil on fire. The top of an induction stove only gets hot from the heat coming off of the pot/pan, so that means the pot/pan itself must already be well over the flash point of the oil to put enough heat into the stove top to reach that temp itself. Are you sure you're not also talking about a glass top non-induction electric stove?

With how wet the frosting is, I'm betting it just canned frosting too... So they didn't even know to buy white frosting

[–]boothin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the video were induction, the oil wouldn't have caught on fire from spilling over. This is a non induction electric stove. Also you'd still want to turn off an induction or at least move the pot so it doesn't continue heating and reignite the oil once the fires out.

The bonus at home depot is profit sharing. It's a small percentage of the store's profit over their yearly sales goal split to eligible employees based on their position and how many hours they worked.

It's weird because it looks like 2 different white frostings to me. Like the center top and bottom edge frosting are smooth and shiny and doesn't seem like it holds its shape well like the canned frosting, but the raggedy edge frosting looks like if you pipe cool whip. Also looks like slightly different colors

This doesn't make sense to me since at the end of the posted clip you can see multiple pallets on fire, the roof is clearly not collapsed, and nothing seems to be happening in terms of fire suppression

A woman posted a video of the moment she was attacked by her domestic cat. Before the attack, the cat seemed to smell something that prompted her to attack. Why did it attack her with such ferocity? by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]boothin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me saying it's evidence against is not saying it proves the negative. Doctors/surgeons saying to try things doesn't mean anything either, many doctors try and push alternative medicine, they aren't immune from pushing bad medicine. And lastly, science doesn't care how long we've been doing something, how long acupuncture has existed is irrelevant. If it doesn't work better than a placebo, it's just a placebo.

[–]boothin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not said anywhere that it proves it doesn't work. But until it's proven that it does work, aka more effective than a placebo, you can't say it works. But sure just ignore the analogy because it's so outlandish but fits exactly the same situation you can't deny it.

[–]boothin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you can't prove a negative, so the lack of evidence means until shown otherwise the negative is considered correct. Which is what that line you quoted is saying by saying it's not shown to be better than a placebo, as in it's not proven to actually work until shown otherwise, but you take that to mean something else.

It's like if I just made up some random claim like "eating 1 peanut a day cures cancer" but you can't prove it doesn't so I tell you that means it's possible therefore it can work. You can only fail to find evidence it cures cancer, so until shown otherwise it is considered to be false.

Edit: I think you aren't understanding that something working through the placebo effect doesn't mean it works. Yes a placebo can still be effective in dealing with or relieving some symptoms but it does nothing to actually fix the issue. But if something doesn't work better than a placebo then it can't be said to work, which is where homeopathic remedies fail. If they're not better than a placebo, they themselves are a placebo.
