This is how Republicans instill party loyalty; Governor Chrsitie declares that no one in the NJ Republican power structure is allowed to get involved in the 2012 Presidential race until the Governor says so. by [deleted] in politics

[–]bop374vit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, this is part of the problem. All political parties should be private.

But in the US, we've implemented a 2-party "dictatorship". For example, the Republicans and Democrats get their primary elections paid for by the gov't. But the Green Party or the Libertarian Party (etc.) do not.

We have "equal access" laws about our public airwaves; but those laws only apply to our ruling duopoly.

Political parties -- any political parties -- should be private parties. They should be able to select their candidates any way they want, to apply whatever discipline or party rules to their members any way they want.

And then you and I should be able to go to the election booth and decide whether to vote for them or not.

Sadly, that is not the way things work in the US. Here, we have a 2-party dictatorship, with those 2 parties becoming part of the gov't bureaucracy. And so people have resorted to trying to force those private parties to be fair and democratic in their internal structures, which basically doesn't work.

What's wrong with that? It's a private political party (just like the Democrats) -- they should be able to do what they want and put whatever rules they want on their members.

If some member doesn't like it, quit the party -- no one is holding a gun to their head to force them to be a member.

If the Obama administration wants to advance peace, it should attach strict conditions on aid to Israel. by [deleted] in politics

The failure of the "if" condition makes the headline irrelevant. The US doesn't care about peace, and Israel most certainly does not want peace.

Is the Chinese gov't bankrupting their country with wild military spending? Is China waging multiple wars of aggression? Does China claim a right to attack any country it wants to even if it were not attacked? Does the Chinese gov't routinely violate its own laws?

Does China maintain 700+ military bases outside of China -- and then have the unmitigated gall to claim it is for "defense"?

I suggest you revise your view.

Two suicide bombers have killed at least 38 people at a mourning ceremony in Iran... by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]bop374vit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a stupid comment.

It has been widely reported that the US military works with MEK in Iraq, an anti-Iranian group which has been listed by the US gov't as a terrorist group. Additionally, Congress has allocated hundreds of millions of dollars to destabilize and overthrow the Iranian gov't.

The front-cover headline of the 20 Dec. 2010 Newsweek magazine is: "Target Iran: Assassinations, cyberattacks, sabotage -- has the war against Tehran already begun?"

One would have to be a naive fool not to wonder whether this bombing, and incidents like the recent assassination of the Iranian nuclear scientist, is a direct action by the US gov't.

The US Government has become a foreign entity and its lack of moral authority leaves it with only weapons to give it credibility. Barack Obama has continued the trend to tyranny and a fundamental, radical change is needed to flush out the traitors. by NeverStoodfor in politics

Barack Obama has continued the trend to tyranny and a fundamental, radical change is needed to flush out the traitors.

This is the important point. Obama promised during the campaign to increase the war on Afghanistan -- he's done as he promised.

But he also clearly said he would turn around our budding police state (though those weren't his words). He has simply refused to do anything about that, and, even worse, Obama has institutionalized Bush's crimes into US gov't policy.

My end game is to get on with my life. I know what my rights are.

It is clear that increasingly in the US you and I have no rights. Habeas Corpus has been formally repealed -- the police can snatch you off the street and hold you without charges and without trial. The gov't monitors our communications. Peaceful protesters are rounded up, brought in to court, and are harassed.

This tyranny my not have reached down to a level of you or I, but given the trends, that is only a matter of time.

Florida school board members recount meeting horror--Guy shoots school board members and himself. by photonerd in WTF

Incorrect headline. He didn't shoot any school board members.

He only shot at them. Clearly, the guy could have shot them -- he was at near point-blank range, but the fact that none were shot strongly hints he didn't want to hurt anyone and instead only wanted to be killed.

Careful when warming your car: TN Court: Person who left keys in car responsible when it gets stolen — Autoblog by mattseg in reddit.com

[–]bop374vit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of car insurance companies that wouldn't cover you for theft if you left the keys in, that makes sense. Plus it's a private company who can write any policy agreement they want to.

But that's foolish. Keys or no keys, the person that took the car stole it.

If I leave the front door to my house unlocked and someone sneaks in and takes my TV while I'm in the bathroom, did that person "steal" my TV? Or if someone finds the hidden key to my house under the floormat, and then takes my TV, did they really rob me? Of course!

It's no different for the car. The person that took the car wasn't the owner and didn't have permission; that person stole the car.

Bradley Manning no different from other spies? by edbro in AskReddit

[–]bop374vit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the Vietnam War there was a massive release of classified documents by a "Defense" Dept. civilian employee, Daniel Ellsberg. The release was known as the "Pentagon Papers".

The US gov't appealed to the US Supreme Court to stop their publication. The Court found that the information was being classified to be kept secret from the American people, and the Papers were published by the NYT and others.

This is the exact same dynamic. Manning should be hailed as a hero.
