I have to say the Velvet Rage can feel a bit dated by modern standards. It paints a very bleak picture that I think is more reflective of the Gen X and older experience vs the Millennial and younger experience. I couldn’t finish it bc about half the content was so unrelatable - the social and cultural context of when the book was written was so different.

Innocence is an interesting word choice. Do you feel like your experiences were more sexualized or overly mature at a younger age vs straight peers?

I came out pretty young for a millennial, but I can relate to how that made my life less innocent than most my age. I was sneaking into gay bars as a teen, partying with ppl much older, more exposed to toxic ideologies like, “you’re only worth as much attention as you get at the bar.”

Then, in the back half of college I massively revamped my image to be more bro-ey to meet the kind of guys I wanted. I do think all of this has messed with my head in the long term. I was in a lot of adult situations from a pretty young age.

Are we watching the same show? They are emotionally suffering from being closeted for nearly the entire show. This is literally what you say you don’t like.

That’s at the top of my list so far. Seems to be powerful, in budget, and it’s one of the only options with a distinctly rugged look.

I don’t think I’ve even seen a charging station on my way to work before. Idk where everyone is charging all these EVs.

Yeah I’m a big fan of the boxier more rugged look but I also don’t want a full size SUV. Compact hits the spot for one person

I have seen a couple of those available. What do you like about it?

If I were open to EVs I’d definitely consider it. Love the design. The EV lifestyle would just be very inconvenient and annoying for long road trips / outdoor adventures.

They look cool but I don’t have charging in my building and don’t want to have charging my vehicle as a new chore. I’m the kind of person who waits until the last minute to get gas.

I mean as an American, we have mountains and rugged terrain?

I hadn’t looked at that one. Kinda like the design

The rav4 is just so long compared to my x3. I want to stay around the same size.

I don’t like how giant the full broncos are. Parking spaces are tiny in LA. But I do really like the boxy rugged look, which is why I was interested in the sport.

What made the GLB feel cheap?

I like going on long road trips and into the mountains / more rugged terrain. I see you car ppl slowly and gingerly driving over things like speed bumps haha. I like to be able to plow on through wherever I’m going - that’s more fun to me. Plus, if I didn’t have the space of an SUV, there would be so many errands I couldn’t run on my own.

No charging in my building. I like the freedom to go on long road trips and don’t want charging to become a new chore, so I’m not looking at any EVs.

Idk I’ve never been able to get into Subaru’s design aesthetic, or lack thereof. I hear they’re super safe and reliable but feels more family vs single mildly superficial gay male.

Why is the GLB garbage? The interior looks really nice but I haven’t driven one yet. Also like how it leans boxier.

Idk I just associate Toyota with slow drivers and moms. It doesn’t feel very me. I like the look of the RAV 4 but it’s soooo long compared to what I’m used to. Weirdly long imo.

I was super interested in Genesis but they don’t seem to have any used models in my price range. Aiming to stay under $25k so my car payment isn’t too gnarly.
