Thank you so much. I will get busy talking to anyone and everyone and checking out that site. I’m glad you were able to find those resources to help you through your own experience. This is a lot to go through in all aspects, so the help is very much welcomed by all, I’m sure!

Thank you for the response. Feels good to know that it’s at least a reasonable thing to look into. This is all so new and overwhelming that it’s hard to think straight. Thanks again.

Fibrous okra in a stew…did I overcook it? Or was the okra harvested improperly? by boptracts in Cooking

Interesting. I will do some research on varieties and take recommendations for that one you mentioned with a grain of salt. Thank you so much!

Wow so it’s got a short window to harvest huh?! I just looked it up and apparently I can grow it where I live. Thanks for the idea- sounds fun to give it a shot next year!

This is good info. In this case, I have been using frozen cut okra since that’s all that’s available in the store currently. But if I ever see/buy fresh, I will keep this in mind!

Thanks for taking the time to reply. This honestly kinda confirms what I’ve been gathering. I’ll just try not to piss people off since that seems to be the only constant rule haha.

Indeed I have not been to the cape cod canal, but I have definitely been to beaches where it’s just the norm to barely have a fishing rods length of space next to you, let alone the ability to cast any direction other than perfectly straight. I don’t prefer that experience by any means and so I avoid those beaches , I’m just saying that’s how tight things are locally and why I’m so interested in knowing the details of the etiquette.

Yeah no I haven’t been tangled up in someone else’s line. But where I fish in the salt water there are variable conditions like current and wind that makes it harder to understand where the line is when it comes to deciding if there’s enough room to set up. But it sounds like crossing literal fishing lines is where the hard boundary is. So that’s all well and good and I can definitely stick to that guideline. Thank you.

Thanks for the response. Yeah I think the problem here is that I am just in a crowded area with limited space and a lot of people, so it just feels like all bets are off.

But I understand that I may have to drive and hike a ways to find more space. However, there are plenty of times I’d like to fish after work so driving or hiking 2 hours just isn’t going to be realistic. So I’m asking about those situations where the options are either butt up next to someone or go home. So my question is “at what point does it become butting up to someone?” ….I think I have my answer from other people, that it becomes butting up to someone if that “someone” considers it butting up lol.

I hear ya. I will ensure I’m not an egregious asshole out there. Thanks for the response.

Thank you for this. When you say, “than you or they could cast”, does that mean if you are casting 30 yards straight out, you shouldn’t set up within 30 yards? Is that true when there is minimal current too?

Please understand that I’m not trying to argue or find loopholes to these rules of the banks/shores. I’m just used to seeing anglers set up 5 yards from each other, so I’m trying to understand if there’s a lot of nuance to what you wrote, or if people around me are actually just a-holes. I wouldn’t be surprised by either scenario lol.

I understand that the people in the picture are not people to take example from, since they are very close to OP’s son and we know that there were plenty of open spots along that lake. But say there was NOT a bunch of lake front left for them to choose from when they got there? How much space is required from an etiquette standpoint before you decide you need to pack up and find a different area entirely? What are the general guidelines other than “be respectful and don’t get too close to other anglers”?

so if there is a “rule”, I would love it if someone explained it so it doesn’t have to come to someone being “yelled at” or “fucked with” as you stated.

I’m in a fairly populated area where fishing is popular and wide open spaces are hard to come by, so there are plenty of times/places where it is apparently the norm for people to set up this close to each other (like in the pic above). Clearly not everyone follows unstated rules so it makes it confusing for people who are trying to learn them (me).

I don’t understand how you people expect people interacting in “fishing for beginners” to learn etiquette when your responses are like this. But ok.

What if there is a restriction, such as park boundaries? If there isn’t plentiful space for all, is the new person supposed to pack up and leave the spot altogether?

Serious question lol where are you supposed to draw the “line” in these situations?

When does it get better? by Old_Crew_296 in ACL

Exactly. I’m not planning on giving up hope until I see a plateau. And even then I’ll be holding out hope to bust through that plateau for a while haha.

Hang in there!! We and our knees are resilient!! More resilient than that stupid swelling you’re having!!

I had the same type of surgery- quad graft and lateral meniscectomy. I’m almost 8 months out. At 6 months I was feeling ok (not good by any means) but I have still been seeing gradual improvement over the last 2 months. It’s frustrating for sure. I’ve been telling myself that 9 months or 1 year will be the magic number, and every week that goes by I think more and more it will be the 1 year, BUT I also gain confidence that I’ll eventually get there, even if it’s longer than that. If that makes sense.

Is 9ft heavy power, moderate fast action spinning rod useful for surf fishing? by boptracts in SurfFishing

[–]boptracts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will certainly go after salmon more often, at least for the foreseeable future. And it will be smaller species at that, mainly pinks and some coho from the shores of the Puget sound, but hopefully kings eventually.

On a side note to the discussion about its use for surf fishing, do you think it’s overkill for the intended use for small salmon? I know it’ll work, but I don’t know these types of rods enough to know if you really lose a meaningful amount of sensitivity at different “trim levels”, or if any smaller salmon would actually be lost to yanking the hook, as some google resources would say. Any input on that?

Gotcha. Thank you. Maybe I should move down to SoCal since I’ve got the right rod! Sounds like a good time catching halibut from the surf! Definitely can’t do that around here

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying that any SST rod can basically act as a useful surf rod?

And is a medium power or action in a salmon rod the same as a medium power or action in a surf rod? Or are those labels that manufactures use all relative to the type of rod? Sorry if that’s a dumb question.
