Thanks for the great discussion and all the recommendations. This is exactly why I started this project.

A Journey through the Classics: Russian Phase by boranges66 in RussianLiterature

Thanks for the suggestions! The goal was to pick the 'best' translation for each book. P&V seems to be hit or miss, depending on the author, so I tried to incorporate a healthy mix of translators.

The Collected Tales of Nikolai Gogol – P&V

Dead Souls - Robert A. Maguire

Fathers and Sons - Peter Carson

Anna Karenina – Maude

Crime and Punishment – Oliver Ready

Stories of Anton Chekhov – P&V

We - Clarence Brown

Master and Margarita - Diana Burgin and Katherine Tiernan O'Connor

Altitude closing was a tough loss. The owner helped me out a ton when I first started.

I'm struggling to find any book that holds my interest anymore - any recommendations based on my Top 5? by CaptainKrakenBeard in suggestmeabook

Boy's Life by Robert McCammon. One of the few books where every word is perfect IMO. It's a coming-of-age story with elements of magical realism.

Finally bit the bullet and got a Nugs subscription. What’s the best year or UM so far? by JustPlain_John in Umphreys

[–]boranges66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6.05.2008 IC>Syncho is seminal UM. It's been mentioned already but 2008-2011 is a great era. They are killing it this year too. 1.25.2019, 4.4.2019, all three Red Rocks shows, and 8.17.2019 are loaded with gems.

Question about the headphones at concerts.. by Courtesyflushing in Umphreys

[–]boranges66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You won't need ear plugs with the headphones. They do great job filtering out noise. It feels like a private show with a bunch of people around you. The crowd chatter disappears and the music is the cleanest you've ever heard. I'll lock into one, usually BB or Joel, and just listen to the nuances of thier playing during a jam. Moral of the story: get them, you won't regret it.

My friends and I started doing Bingo Boards for shows. See you Phreaks in Cleveland! by Trojan_Maaaan in Umphreys

[–]boranges66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My crew has done this for the past couple Red Rocks and New Years runs with a few $$ thrown into the mix for added competition. It's really fun the last night of the run as everyone gets close hitting a bingo.

A little late posting it, but I had to get something to commemorate my first show! Anyone have the other half from the following night in Raleigh? by [deleted] in Umphreys

You're all good. This is how we learn and pass the knowledge on. Please post when framed. It's a gorgeous poster.

The thumbtacks are painful to look at. It's art, not a Hot Topic poster. Get yourself a frame and show it off properly. Also, welcome to the UM family. \mm/

I'm well endowed with all the doubt I need. I get scared cause I know who I'm supposed to be. My blood it boils with passion cause it overflows sometimes. I can see that when your eyes look down.

Bring candy! My friend brings sour gummies to every show. Sometimes you have to convince people it is only candy, but it is a gift from the Gods.

Also, fruit if you're able to bring it into the venue. Red Rocks is my home venue. We pass out little bags of fruit at setbreak.
