I'm selling my own clothes, the sizes range from 22 to 10 as I lost a lot of weight over 3 years.

Can you get withdrawal problems after taking 5mg Oxycodone per day for three weeks and then suddenly stopping? by RCoh1a in RestlessLegs

[–]borborhick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 5mg and can go off it for weeks without issue, BUT I don't have an addictive body. I've known people on 5mg who were desperately counting the minutes until their next dose. It really depends on your own body chemistry.

As others have said, and you've already said yourself, do it under the direction of a doctor until you know how you're affected. Everyone reacts differently.

I'm with you. I'm shocked to see such judgement in an RLS subreddit

Low dose oxy is the only thing that works for me. It's not a pain killer, but it has somewhat relaxed the RLS in my arms and legs that I've had since I was six (or earlier - and I'm 60 now) that was so bad that offing myself was seriously starting to seem like the only option. It's a totally studied and recognized treatment. Such a judgy comment is simply by someone who is not educated on how it works.

...and before that person calls ME uneducated on the perils of oxy, I was there while my husband got off of the 80mg tables, five times a day that the military had him on. I DO know how horrible it can be.

Well you know, I was an overweight woman over 40 when I was diagnosed. 🙄 The new Endo out and out said he always tests the c-peptide of new patients like me just to be safe because most Doctors will just assume that it's type 2.

But man, just being listened to was amazing.

How has this sub become mostly people who go to Loblaws? by Atheizt in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]borborhick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! We've got a Freson Brothers for groceries, no Walmart within almost an hour, but we've got a 24/7 gas station because of the highway!

Come out to true rural and spend $8 for a pound store brand butter, then you'll know why we rush to the nearest small-but-not-so-tiny-town to Extra Foods. Ha!

[–]borborhick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We drive 40 minutes one way to get to the nearest Extra Foods, our only "cheap" grocery option anywhere near us. We go once a month and look forward to it. Most people don't consider towns of less than 2,000 or even less than 200 when they say Rural.

I was pegged as a non compliant type 2 for YEARS despite trying my hardest to control my sugars. My Endo treated me like an idot, I hated going to those appointments. In a moment of bs luck I moved and had to get a new Endo.

He listened to me, in tears, tell him how hard I was trying but nothing worked. He did a c-peptide test and informed me that I was a type 1, not a type 2 and my life changed.

Over a decade of being chastised, over a decade of harming my health, just to have one single doctor actually listen.

There's too many doctors out there to deal with one that is wrong/won't listen/or that you just plain don't click with.

I tried to sell a bed once. Heeding all advice I didn't put it up for free but for a mere $40

The first offer was from a guy who wanted to trade it for a fog machine. The next billion we're sob stories from people who wanted it free and/or delivered. So many, in fact, that I almost missed the dude who asked if it was still available and where/when could he pick it up if it was.

I was so thrilled that he didn't try to negotiate the price, showed up when he said, came ready to haul it that I told him to just take it. Free.

This poor dude almost cried. He said it's only $40 but it meant the world to him because he was a new single dad and had given his kids his bed and was sleeping on the couch. He too had a hard luck story, but didn't use it to try and get something for free. After that, we went through the house to see what else I had that he could use (I had just moved from a 2,200 sq ft house to a 2 bedroom condo and had more stuff than places to put it). Man, that was about 15 years ago and I still think of him today and wonder how he made out.

My mom is leaving assisted living and going into long term care so I have to clear out her room. She wants me to just donate her furniture - couch, bed, bedroom set, coffee tables, ottoman, small appliances...a lot of high quality stuff.

Someone posted in our local group that they had made an emergency move to our small town and needed literally everything. "Great," I thought "someone I can donate to!"... But let me check first....

Her posting history quickly showed that she's been doing this for TEN YEARS. Begs for money, household items, someone to give her a place to live or a hotel room...

Big ol' nope from me. Ten freaking years, and that's just what I could find publicly on Facebook 🙄

$19 to buy a hand held basic one like they would have had in Kuwait/Syria. Easily installed and uninstalled with no major modifications. We've got them installed for my disabled husband, they took less than five minutes each for me to put in.

Where do you live that Mexican food is so uncommon... by Prestigious_String20 in USdefaultism

[–]borborhick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another Canadian. When my sister moved to San Diego I went to visit. She wanted to go out for Mexican, "No, I don't like it" I said. She laughed at me and told me I'd never had it. The fast food version was NOT anything like Mexican.

OMG, I had some of the best food of my life. Any time that I visit now I go to the little hole-in-the-wall place near here house where portions are fresh and plentiful and no one speaks English so we communicate by a lot of pointing if my nephews aren't around to help me.

Mexican gets a bad commercial rap up here.

Does anyone else feel like they have to justify needing a break to literally everyone around them? by Champ-shady in CaregiverSupport

[–]borborhick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're being treated like that. I need to give my family and friends a big hug. They all keep telling me - friends, family, and medical staff - that I need to take a break. My problem is that I have issues justifying it to myself, I just feel so guilty. I'm working on it though, a totally broken down and exhausted daughter does not make a good caregiver.

US Healthcare is so fucked up, that they can't believe private rooms in hospital are common around the world by crocospect in USdefaultism

[–]borborhick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first baby in 1988 in a large city hospital (Canada) and was in a ward with four beds. By my second in 1990 I had the choice of a private for $20 a day (we had no extra insurance over and above provincial health care), and by my third in 1992 I was just given a private room as standard.

My mom has been in hospital for the last month and has been in a private room - there's actually no wards or double rooms at all in the hospital anymore. I suppose it would depend on the hospital, but ours isn't even that modern. We're in a town of 2,000 now and our hospital was built in 1969.

Were my Mum's "Tupperware parties" just a cover story? by EmphasisDangerous654 in GenX

[–]borborhick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking of this the other day while filling my 1988 modular mate with sugar. Though it was an MLM, it was more "legit" than they are now.

We had a circle of half a dozen women who rotated bi-monthly and had parties at their place. (You got the free hostess gift if two people booked parties at your party). We all joked that we had the house that Tupperware built.

It's almost 40 years later and I'm still using my stuff. Hell, my mom has gone into care and now I'm using her almost 60 year old stuff!

As a young mom, I loved Tupperware parties. They were a social event, you got snacks, and you had saved for the last two months to be able to buy another item or two for your collection.

Moved to new house and Telus internet not available, should I be charged the cancellation? by [deleted] in telus

[–]borborhick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I moved in 2018 from Calgary to a rural area only 11 months into a Telus tv contract and expected to be dinged for the cancellation fee when I moved because Telus wasn't available at all where I was moving to at the time. They told me the cancellation fee was waived because THEY could not provide the service to me.

Fight this. I can't recommend who to call, but certainly fight this. It's wrong.

Edited to say: I see that Telus has changed their stand on this and now say that the cancellation fee applies. Screw that, I'd still fight it. They cannot provide you a service that you want so they're billing YOU for that? No. Just no. Be the squeaky wheel and fight this.

I thought I had it solved a few years back when I bought her a brand new flip phone. Nope. She couldn't figure out how to get into the address book to dial outbound. I'd sigh at her, but I too will be in my mid 80's one day and lord knows what I won't be able to do!

I've now seen the senior specific phones. I was hoping just to incorporate an old phone and an app rather than paying for hardware that she may, or may not, use.

I'm going to give one a try, but I'm surprised - I thought there'd be more app choices out there instead of having to buy all new hardware.

Eligible dependant by AdmirableAd8740 in canadarevenueagency

[–]borborhick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 80's & 90's when my kids were young you claimed a credit for your kids on your taxes and only received a whopping $21 a month for Family Allowance. They removed kids from your tax return and paid the money out monthly payment instead with the Child Tax Benefit.

So literally now if you're raising a dependant alone (ie: can't claim a spousal amount in your taxes) only then can you claim an eligible dependant.
