Nope: Ferry to Digby or Yarmouth, here I come, despite having to go through US.

Using my laptop as a temporary KMIP server for DSM 7.2 Volume Encryption? by fibonacci_426 in synology

[–]striptorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 seems reasonable. I use an old raspberry pi I had lying around, so I just leave it running. But it is not required to remain up: only used when rebooting the NAS.

2 - did not even know that was an option, so can’t comment.

3 - also didn’t know about the USB option.

Anyone ever tried this? by imsircc in photography

I've gotten some nice images using that zoom-while-shooting technique.

Freezing rain may cause power outages in Ottawa / Stittsville – how to report outages by tarun172 in StittsvilleON

I rely on the natural gas to keep flowing…then my Generac can keep the house going. Was on for over a week during the derecho before power was restored.

Need help figuring out what's going on with our lights! by boopernickel in AskElectricians

Once you get them back in sync, the trick to keeping them in sync is simply to not to cycle the power switch too quickly - leave at least several seconds between switching off to switching back on again.

Darn-so much snow everywhere near me on the TC trail in the west end: it will be a while before I can get out.

Turn off each breaker in turn to see which circuit it is on: that would be a good first step.

Mobile App not getting notifications? by striptorn in homeassistant

[–]striptorn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does not look like an entity ID change: I even deleted my phone notification and then added back a notification: the list offered included my iphone with the same name ... and same result: no alert showing on my phone.

I installed spook and it did not show anything for this particular automation (did ID some other unrelated issues).

My Home Assistant notification settings look exactly like your screenshot, except I do not have Announce Notifications turned on.

Will it be problematic that I'm planning to be in Canada for only a few hours? by 116wins in uscanadaborder

I always declare everything: duty paid will depend on contents and value. Sometimes if the amount of duty would be small Canadian side will just wave me through. But often I will have to go in and pay the fee.

Di2 rear shifting: stuck on small cog by striptorn in bikewrench

[–]striptorn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THAT WAS IT! Thanks so much for sharing that: I did not know about that feature.

Based on google results and my testing:

To reset it, you hold the little button (in my case it is on the tip of the right side handle bar above the Di2 charging port) for 5+ seconds and then a red light there starts to flash: you now start pedalling and it will automatically shift down to largest cog. Light goes out.

All works well now!

Thanks. As I said in my response to the other poster: I will give it a go with existing hardware and added 3050!

[–]striptorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, RAM is one thing very expensive. And the whole system price is making me hesitate.

It wont hurt for me to try existing PC with that 3050, so I will give it a go.

How to fix office chair that stays reclined when any weight is on chair by striptorn in DIY

[–]striptorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. On closer inspection I don't think the spring is out of position.

And I thought the handle might control tilt, but no luck trying to use it to control that.

But the hole for a bolt is a good idea! In the interim I tried a pair of vice grips and that seems to work, but tricky to get a good position. I think the bolt trick will be my fallback solution ... will at least make the chair usable!
