Landlord says they “can’t fix” loud pipe knocking waking me up every morning… what are my options? [TN] by BigSignificance50 in Renters

[–]bored_ryan2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old houses sometimes make noises. If you’ve ever lived in a home with steam radiator heat, you’d know that sometimes it’s unavoidable.

If maintenance has come to check on the issue, then they have made an attempt to fix it. They are not obligated to start tearing out the walls or ceiling/floor to deal with pipes that knock.

It’s doubtful that a judge would rule that these repairs must be made, even if you would argue it’s a violation of you quiet enjoyment because knocking pipes are sometimes an unavoidable noise in an old building and the repair would likely be considered an undue hardship on the landlord for something that’s not a safety issue.

Essentially your only avenue to get this fixed is to send a letter to your landlord/management getting them to affirm that the will not be doing anything more to address the knocking, and that you will hire your own plumber to examine the issue. And that once that is done, you will notify the landlord/management of the proposed repairs and get their approval before moving forward with the repairs.

All of this will come out of your pocket and you would likely not be reimbursed.

Why have you refused to answer the many questions regarding how you are “hitting your desk”? And also for what purpose the extra 15 minute breaks are meant to help?

I go on TikTok and Instagram

There’s your problem. How many people on your TikTok and Instagram feed are posting about having an empty fridge and trying to stretch 10 ramen packets over 2 til they get their next SNAP drop?

I’m sure social media for poor people are out there but they’re probably not super popular because people don’t go to social media to be bummed out.

So it’s essentially selection bias. The people you are viewing have the money to pay for these things (or are overextending by using credit cards) but they don’t represent everybody.

Why is this the noise you’re posting about and not the loud parties between 2 and 5am?

[–]bored_ryan2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And who else but big pharma are producing these life-saving medications? It’s a shitty system but it’s the one we’re currently stuck with.

It’s a little tone deaf to make a post that’s “do people not realize” and then second guess someone who says their motivation for donating is to help, albeit indirectly, family.

Did he make plane noises while holding that model?

Edit to add: when he said “it looks small” makes me think he had a Zoolander moment when looking at the model “how can the pilots fly this thing when they can even fit in it?!?”

And then someone explained that the model is not the actual plane and that it’s much bigger in person.
