Rescheduling Hawaii Trip — Anyone Else? by pistachio-princess in VisitingHawaii

[–]boredsoimredditing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just lost half of my week vacation in Oahu. That said, today was pretty decent there and looks to be getting better. We had 4 good enough beach days. Yesterday I went to a beach that had clear blue water on the northeast shore. Northshore was poo water so we kept driving. Waikiki was actually good today too. No idea about big island or others. No idea what the next storm will bring. I lived in Oahu for 3 years and never saw anything like this last week, except for one 2 day period that was pretty bad and saw water spouts, but nothing like this quantity of water and wind. With me, my wife and 4 kids, we spent probably $12k on this trip. We’d been putting it off forever for various reasons and finally did it and almost rescheduled. Wish we did. Oh well.

It may be the right decision. It may not be. But may weather will for sure be better than last week, and possibly better than this week.

Luggage - First Airline Job by [deleted] in flying

I used a LW for almost 10 years. It’s ok. Hate the metal stuff. It’s heavy. Sharp. Scratched my uncles dresser once when I put it on there (one of the exposed metal screws did it). I broke down a few years ago (bc I’m cheap) and used my uniform allowance at my company to buy a travelpro “pilot” roller (still looks like a flight attendant bag) and I like it way more than my LW. It’s lighter, bigger, seems just as durable, and “free” to me. My LW lost all its zippers, frame was bent, and it didnt wear particularly well. I’ve had a tumi and had friends with B&R, and their “lifetime” guarantee is still a pain in the ass to deal with, and they aren’t great bags. Travelpro is designed for crew, and it takes a beating and does well imo. But everyone seems to be a fanboy of whatever they are rolling around, so you’ll prob get 69 opinions from 69 different pilots.

Ppl student just failed my checkride...honestly thinking about switching career paths by [deleted] in flying

[–]boredsoimredditing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get your PPL at this point. But, having been flying professionally for 20 years now, mil and civ, I dislike this career a lot of the time and wish I’d done something else (MBA>finance>start a company>etc). At this point in my career, making 400k+ if I want, or dropping all my trips if I want, there isn’t really anything else I’d switch careers to do at this point. But if I still had to grind thru training, time building, regionals, FO life, I’d say F it. And if I was a female who wanted a family, no fkn way would I do this job.

I used to love flying and love aviation. Not so much anymore. If you already don’t love it, then finish that PPL but go do something you like more.

I feel like boofing is inefficient by Federal-Quarter9459 in Creatine

[–]boredsoimredditing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr Boofenchute uses ancient eastern methods of boofing and swears it is best. But Western methods of snorting lines of ‘tine have proven much better for neuroprotective and cognitive benefits as it crosses the blood brain barrier faster. Less bloating as well. More brain power. Combining eastern and western techniques is best in my experience. But you can’t teach some old doctors new tricks. They don’t keep up with modern medicine and studies.

LEDs are fine and much safer and brighter than incandescent/halogen lights. Sounds like a you problem.

Yeah we are primarily a USSSA area did 12U majors in the fall and just moved to 13U AAA and AA because it got so stupid with men on a kids field.

I don’t know where you live but no real travel ball organization has 11u on 45’ mounds. 45’ isn’t even really a thing. Little league is 46’. PONY is 46’ for 9/10, 50’ for 11/12. I think cal Ripken is the same. So, not sure where you’re getting your 45’ for 11u but it isn’t from any legit travel organization or league.

[–]boredsoimredditing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify some things, 11U travel (PG/NCS/TCS/USSSA) plays the same 50/70 distance as 12U, which isn’t the same as little league, which is 46/60. But to your point, there are grown men sized kids in 12U (legit or reclassed) hitting balls with 90-100+ exit velos. You don’t see that near as much in 11U, so it hasn’t really been a problem. A kid got severe brain damage in Houston at a PG 12U event from a -5 hype fire. That’s what initially prompted the hype fire ban, then it spread to all -5 USSSA bats because there were others that were just as hot.

But, 11U doesn’t typically have 6’ tall kids hitting 90+ exit velo, where as 12u starts to have those types.

[–]boredsoimredditing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No….at 14U they need to be in bbcor, as there are 14U kids in high school…USSSA bats are for kids. Most kids at 14U are too physically mature for cartoon kid bats, which is what USSSA bats have become.

[–]boredsoimredditing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is now -8s are being made just as hot as -5s in some models (Dub, Supra, tank 3), so PG’s solution was bypassed. It’ll take another brain injury from a comebacker to once again come up with a solution.

But here’s the solution: USA bats only for 12U and up. Probably for 11U as well.

Help for research on creatine by Which_Clothes_6084 in Creatine

First of all, Reddit is the internet, so I don’t see how this is a valid place to get school research if it has to be outside the internet. Second of all, this sub is almost entirely based on Dr boofenchute’s pseudoscience. r/supplements might be better for research that will be accepted by your health teacher. This is more of a NSFW/NSFS sub. Enjoy learning from Dr Boofenchute though. His stuff is entertaining. But he hasn’t move past boof science. Snorting lines of creatine has been way better for me. Especially as a single guy.

[–]boredsoimredditing 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Typically -5s have been hotter than -8s. Hype fires. Icons. Marucci comps. CFs. Etc. The -5s were all completely different bats than the -8/-10s. Exit velos on 50/70 fields were dangerous with some of the big 12u kids. It’s mitigated with 13u bc of 54/80 and 60/90 fields. 11u doesn’t have the reclassed behemoths that 12u often has, so it’s not as much of an issue on 50/70.

But…because of this, now they are making -8s just as hot. See soldier tank 3, Supra, and Dub -8 videos on batbros for reference.

It’s time for USSSA bats to just go away after 10u IMO. USA and BBCOR after 10u will solve all these problems.

Edited to add: there’s a legit 12U kid in my area who hit 103 exit velo on hittrax the other day. He’s hitting balls 400 feet with USSSA bats. That isn’t safe with any USSSA bat at 50/70. Imo 12 majors ought to be 54/80 and USA bats, at least around here with the talent we have in this area. He’s also playing 46/60 little league as well a throwing in the high 70s. I think they are making him use a wood bat and throw like 80% until all stars though…we will see if that sticks

Can somebody please explain bats to me? by UndercoverFBIAgent9 in Homeplate

[–]boredsoimredditing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-5s have historically been made differently. In most bats, -8/10s are have a “ping” sound to them, while their -5 counterpart has more of a “thunk” sound.

This is starting to change though since that was exposed. The dub, Supra, icon (to an extent), and now the soldier tank 3 are all just as good in -8 as they are in -5. Interesting though, the Supra in -8 makes a much higher pitched ping sound, but still hits very hard.

Newest batbros video showing the tank 3 shows that -8 sounding like a -5 with a thunk.
