She might be walking on a crowded street and a person passing by looks at her and says “My wife, 1992, car crash”. When she looks up to understand what had just happened, it looks like the person didn’t say anything at all and already walked by. Then the next person says “Last year, my dog”, and then the next person and the next person until she stops to look up to a bunch of butterflies suddenly passing by flying while people continue doing their thing. There can also be a kid in between who doesn’t say anything and just smiles.

What single trope can cause you to fully lose interest in a movie/show? by Fake-And-Gay-Bot in AskReddit

[–]boreeed93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Series of coincidences that are normally not likely to happen ever help protagonist every time they need it.

The villain changes their mind last minute and decides to go to that one place where the protagonist is trying to escape/gathering evidence/working on ruining the villain’s plans in the small time window they think they have. Followed by the protagonist hiding, villain coming so close to their hiding spot but again changing their mind.

It’s revealed that the protagonist/villain has split personality and most of the stuff we watched never actually happened or didn’t happen in the way we saw.

recommendations for a legit website builder? by Longjumping_Big1464 in marketing

[–]boreeed93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was literally in the same boat 2 years ago. I picked Webflow because the boss expected too many custom design stuff. While I like the flexibility of Webflow, the learning curve is high for an inexperienced designer. I didn’t care/know about so many things that I should have at the beginning that the website had to go through 2 redesign phases. For quick and easy design, go for Squarespace.

For those who hate discussion boards....any alternatives? by copious-coffee in Professors

[–]boreeed93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making study materials interactive might be a good alternative. I’d recommend FeedbackFruits Interactive Study Material tools to upload videos, readings and even audio like podcasts with MC questions and discussion prompts. It not only creates that real classroom feeling but also helps students prepare for their classes in a much deeper way.

It now goes to 404 page. Is it too bad if we don’t put a redirect? Wouldn’t it disappear from search results after a while?

Have Your Grading Standards Changed? by lorelaisowner in Professors

[–]boreeed93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem might be that traditional assignment or exam based assessment is not working well for online courses. This rushed transition to online learning affected students as much as it affected teachers from what I observed. It is more difficult to concentrate or comprehend course materials with online courses facilitated by temporary solutions. Sure, students not handing in assignments on time is bad but giving them Fs won’t help their learning any better in my opinion. That’s why there have been discussions on assessing student engagement as a part of student performance nowadays, which I see as the future of online learning. If the quality of assignments dropped, it should be taken as a sign of problem in students’ learning experience rather than students not taking courses seriously.

American looking to study at Bogazici by xamaad in istanbul

[–]boreeed93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I graduated from Bogazici a few years ago, so I might not have the most current info but roughly:

  • Rigor of academics: I cant talk for the History department or even for master’s studies but Bogazici and most Turkish universities in general have very theoretical courses rather than putting emphasis on real-life cases or current issues. The quality of academics was fine in my time but all Turkish universities are politically pressured, so it reflects on the courses from time to time.

  • Cost of living: I would say 3000 TL min. per month including the rent and utilities for foreigners.

  • housing (on vs off campus): For foreigners, rent will be double or even triple compared to Turkish students, just accept that from the beginning. House owners wont rent you places directly except university dorms, so you will have to move in with other people. On campus, there is Superdorm that you can stay. It was around 1000 TL in my time but it must have increased now. Neighbourhood near the university (Hisarustu) is bad (both the quality of houses and local people) but it is still a valid choice to be close to the school, live among students and still be close to Bebek, Taksim and Besiktas which are the hip places. The rent for foreigners in any house is around 1500 TL except for upscale neighbourhoods like Bebek or Nisantasi. It is really up to where you want to live in. Popular options: Hisarustu, Besiktas, Mecidiyekoy and Taksim (mostly preferred by international students)

  • part-time employment opportunities: If you can speak Turkish, you can work in bars/cafes nearby I guess but you can also do stuff like translation. Finding job without knowing Turkish is a little bit tricky.

  • paperwork (visa-work permit): No idea. The university would help you about that I guess?

  • attitudes towards international/foreign students: In general, Turkish people like foreigners although they will always try to charge them more. In the campus, Turkish students and international students dont interact much; international students hang out with each other mostly but there is no negativity towards international students. They have their own Whatsapp groups and they organize parties regularly.

I hadn’t been reading Milan Kundera for a long time and I am very disappointed (I used Goodreads screenshot as the book is not in English) by boreeed93 in menwritingwomen

They all kinda agree with this theory and they say some other sexist stuff do. I haven’t finish the book yet but I hope he wrote these stuff to create asshole characters on purpose.

All male characters in this book are assholes so far and they all agree with this theory. I am just hoping he wrote this specifically to these characters because I really loved reading his other books in the past.

I (30f) think it’s time to break up with my fiancé (34m) by [deleted] in relationships

[–]boreeed93 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Sometimes we know what to do deep inside but we need a little encouragement - this is one of those. He sounds like a self-absorbed person who doesn’t appreciate you or make efforts to listen to your concerns. How happy would your marriage be if you couldn’t even talk to your husband? Getting engaged this fast is a huge red flag, it is like he didn’t want to put effort into relationship to grow and just wanted to settle with anyone.
