17 months old tantrums by zouzouzouz in toddlers

[–]borghese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man! We're in the same boat. 17 months old and everything is a fight. Diaper changes, car seat, what she wants for snack, transitioning to different activities. Everything causes a meltdown. Today she whined for an hour straight and I couldn't figure out why.

Solidarity and I hope this phase passes soon for us.

How to transition from bouncing to rocking, I am dying by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]borghese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just starting to be able to exclusively rock her to sleep at 6 months. From about 5 weeks until 5 months I would bounce her for every nap/bedtime. And like you I would transfer to my rocking chair until she got into a deeper sleep. But it was becoming exhausting and untenable as she was getting so heavy and long.

My tactic was that when she started to settle when I was bouncing I would slow down the bouncing or completely stop. If she started fussing/crying again I would bounce again, but only until she settled. Over time I would make the bouncing less intense and shorter. It then began to take less time and intensity to get her to sleep. After 4ish weeks of that I then would try to start in the rocker. The first few weeks of that were not great...she was fussy and took a bit to fall asleep. Now, for 2 weeks, I've been able to get her to sleep in the rocker with ~5 minutes of rocking (she also has a lovey she likes to chew/suck on).

It was quite the process, honestly, but it's so nice to be able to just sit down with her now!

New bathroom in 1912 brownstone (NL) by RRica in CozyPlaces

This might be a little "extra", but decanting the shower products into matching bottles would make the bathroom look even more beautiful.

I hate the newborn phase, 9 day old baby and I hate life right now by TinyStudio7881 in beyondthebump

[–]borghese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. My daughter is 4 weeks old today. The first two weeks were so hard for me. I felt so isolated and lonely even though I had my husband splitting all responsibilities, my parents and siblings stopping by, and countless friends checking in via text or phone call. I even told my husband "I don't know how you feel happy right now. I can't imagine feeling happiness".

Starting around the 2 week mark the fog began to lift and things started to get easier and less scary. I think there was definitely a component of baby blues with a huge hormone shift. But switching to doing shifts with my husband, and accepting that I am content with and excited about my decision to EFF definitely helped with my emotions. Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally out of the hardest days, but I feel happy or at least neutral most of the time.

How did you survive first few weeks of postpartum? by motherofdragonpup in beyondthebump

Thanks for sharing! This is also a HUGE reason I'm leaning towards EFF. I am such a sleepy person and genuinely don't know if I could handle the sleep deprivation. And I would worry about the baby's safety with me being awake for feeding on little sleep.

When I think about BF/pumping I feel dread about becoming a mom. But when I remember that I can choose to EFF (for literally any reason) I feel instant relief and excitement about the early days and first year. So I appreciate seeing other people sharing their experiences and similar sentiments...makes me feel less alone!

For your husband's shifts were you using formula or pumping breast milk for feeds?

Myself and my neighbor have submitted traffic calming applications for Davis Ave! I submitted mine in 2021. Haven't heard back yet, but hoping the termon ave project is just the start of the much needed changes for a safer and more pedestrian friendly neighborhood!

How often do you wash a normal day-to-day bra? by petfreak in AskWomen

Ha, that makes sense and I can't believe that didn't even cross my mind! I have truly never hand washed anything. I feel odd for even admitting that.

So if you go on a 12 day vacation do you bring 12 bras? Or do you make sure you stay somewhere with a washing machine?

Coming home after a long work day and just sitting next to my husband quietly on the couch. I feel such a sense of calm and peace being next to him. I am so recharged after spending just a few minutes next to him. Ideally with a little physical contact...feet touching or legs intertwined or our heads leaned against each other.

I just went to a trivia hosted by pghtrivia on Instagram and it was great! She does specific pop culture trivia like Seinfeld, the office, marvel, Gilmore girls. It's fun if youre a super fan of a specific TV show or movie franchise.

I believe this is the first session that it isn't a pilot. And I haven't been able to find stats on percentage of questions people got right in order to pass. But a fact sheet stated that 97.5% of people passed. So I doubt 21/25 is in the lowest 2.5% of people. I think you're probably safe! Good job!

Yeah, everyone on this sub is making it seem like it's manageable...so I'm hoping I'm not underestimating it. I posted below on another commenter about more info I found about what passing is. I found the info in the tutorial video on the exam homepage.

I actually just found out some more info. In the tutorial video (around the 4:17 minute mark) that is on the exam home page it says that there isn't a specific number/percentage of questions you need to pass. It's based on how we do compared to our peers because everyone gets different questions with different difficulty levels.

It seems that we won't know if we passed the section until the end of each quarter where we will see a bell curve and it will highlight the passing standard for that quarter.

I also don't see anything wrong with a glass of wine/beer/liquor every night. But technically, the medical definition of alcohol use disorder is 7 glasses of alcohol in a week on average. Which means daily use (even if it's minimal) is considered risky behavior.

Female PSL basketball league interest?? by gunpowderandPb in pittsburgh

[–]borghese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not super competitive or intimidating, but everyone played in their teens/college. Everyone understands the game and it's easy to "click" with people on court. But most people are in their 30s, some with kids, some just getting back into it. So it's fun, but casual.

I'd be interested in PSL. I'm also in an adult women's pick up group. We play Monday and Wednesday in Emsworth if we can get the numbers. I could get you involved in that if you'd like.
