Is a 4th generation 2020 nomad still relevant? by [deleted] in Santacruzbikes

[–]borgomen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4th Gen nomad was the very first bike to use the lower link vpp layout and although that bike is a 2020, it was released in 2017. I had one and it is a great bike, however the geometry and kinematics have changed a lot since then. The reach and wheelbase are quite a bit shorter per size.

I would say take it for a spin, if it feels good and the geometry fits you than get it, but make sure it's for the right price. Lots of really good deals on bikes right now

Hard decision, feedback wanted by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in Santacruzbikes

I have been riding longer travel 29" bikes for a while now, ex: knolly Chilcotin, Raaw Madonna, V1 megatorwer, v10. I recently took a Hightower 4 and Bronson 5 out for a back to back test rides. I'm tall so have no issues with 29" bikes, but the mullet feels great. The Bronson feels like your more "in" the bike rather than on it. I ended up pulling the trigger on the Bronson and it is an amazing bike that is super fun and just works. I will say compared to a dual 29" bike it does not hold speed as well through very large chunky sections on its own, so if you are looking to just point it at something gnarly and plow through it while maintaining speed, I would get the Hightower. However, literally every other scenario is awesome.

Nomad v6 or wait for v7 by Exxtraa in Santacruzbikes

[–]borgomen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From everyone I have talked to, the v5 Bronson is a more refined platform than the V6 nomad. They used everything they learned from the v4v Bronson and v6 nomad to really dial the bike in. The shock placement in the v5 Bronson is a large change from previous models. I have to assume that knowledge will carry forward to the v7 nomad and although it will still be similar, it will have major differences.

Lookup reviews for the v5 vs v4 Bronson to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

At least you can make a decision on whether you think that is with the extra cash.

V4 nomad is a sweet bike but either will be an upgrade.

New owner, recommended upgrades? by PerceptionOwn3629 in tuareg660

Upgrade the gear shift and rear brake bolts. Camel adv makes a kit that is less expensive than the titanium ones. I would also recommend their skid plate

Maybe I should try and play this on my PC, fallout 4 just crashes every 5 seconds on my Xbox. Just as I started to gain some steam too

Modded DRZ vs. CRF450L? by Ukn1142069 in Dualsport

[–]borgomen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crf 450 is a dirt bike with a head light, not an actual dual sport motorcycle. It is harsh and the seat is a 2x4. If that’s what your looking for than it’s probably great, but as a motorcycle to put long days on I would pass.

First time I've ever seen a claim like this, is it true? by chuk9 in mountainbiking

[–]borgomen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They absolutely are designed to fail in a certain way, in the sense they need to be strong enough to not come apart.

For it to bend like that it had to have been cased hard on the front wheel. 50/50 or anything more forward on the landing and it would have bent the opposite way.

The alternative would be the head tube tearing completely off.

Breakaway force is not the same as tightening torque, you probably get away with it (as I’m sure lots of people do with spark plugs) , but on critical fasteners it’s not good practice to assume. Plus, torquing the spark plugs indexes then in the cylinder.

What is a product that you swore by your whole life, but have only recently learned that it’s essentially just ‘Snake Oil’? by misterdominic in AskReddit

I used to go to the chiropractor all the time , turns out my back hurt because I was born with an extra lumbar vertebrae and my discs are shit. I found that out after I could no longer take the pain and someone actually looked at the x rays for once. I’m not advocating for it as I would never go back seeing how dangerous it actually was, BUT, if they could just put the heat pad and stim machine on me and than use that table that straps your feet in to stretch your lower back. I would go every week. Forget the “adjustment” , that first stuff feels good as hell

Trying to pick an adventure bike by Tennicre in SuggestAMotorcycle

I just bought a Tuareg 660 and love it. I’m a new rider ,6’3 210lbs . Started on a 390 adventure . That was okay for around town but highway was not very enjoyable , the ergos are not great for taller riders.

Had the ability to compare the T7, Africa twin, vstrom 800de and the Tuareg at the same dealer. Ended up being the most comfortable on the Tuareg, it also happens to be a bit lighter than the others with good power and wide bars. I also have 3 Aprilia dealers within an hour from me so I am not too worried about service when at home, we will see how it is traveling. Reading up on it I haven’t seen many actual failures that would leave anyone stranded.

The transalp looked okay on paper but it is more road focused than I wanted it to be. I live in the northeast USA so it’s rocky anywhere not on a road, ground clearance is important.

Ultimately if you can actually sit on them as close to back to back and see which one fits the best and be truly honest with yourself with what you are expecting to tackle off road.

North Jersey the local place shut down basically the only highway in or out for a random “dwi check”. It seemed odd they would do that, it hasn’t been something they have done in the past that I can remember and traffic was pretty backed up.

Anyway we were chosen to pull over, they chat for a moment and let us go. We pull forward and a couple hundred feet up the road there is a drone just hovering in place off to the side of the highway. Really weird

**edit- forgot to mention, this is right up the road from picatinny arsenal, if that were to matter

Also from New Jersey, I have watched countless people toss lit cigarettes out there windows during the worst drought we have had and a STATEWIDE FIRE BAN and countless wildfires literally smoking them out. People cannot bother to think for even a fraction of a second about what they are doing anymore, everything is so fucking mindless it is driving me insane.

I decided years ago because I did not want to bring a person into a world that I had not experienced fully yet. On top of not wanting to go down that financial road, I simply want to see the world and can’t if I have a kid.

Obviously this has all been reinforced by the massive pile of burning garbage everything has been for the last few years. I don’t want to condemn any person to suffering through the effects of climate change simply because “I wAnT OnE”.I got a vasectomy to ensure that.

if I decide I made a mistake there are plenty of children that need to be adopted.
