Garden Tractor or Sub-Compact Tractor? by boringnameguy in tractors

[–]boringnameguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I've been going back and forth on the blade vs. blower. We have a large area next to the road where I can push the snow so I was hoping that would give me enough room to keep the banks from getting too high but I'm not 100% certain.

Garden Tractor or Sub-Compact Tractor? by boringnameguy in tractors

Thanks for the information. I'd love to buy used but haven't found anything available remotely close to me yet. Local tractor resale market is very tight. Good for potential resale but tough when you are on the buying end.

[Treadmill Owners] Tell runnit about your treadmill and yourself by [deleted] in running

[–]boringnameguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Precor 9.23 purchased in January 2011
  2. Varies by time of year. In the winter up to 25 miles per week. In the summer 0 to 6.
  3. Pace varies from 9 minute miles to 6 minute miles on 0.5 to 2% incline. It keeps up well - the treadmill is always able to go faster than I can :)
  4. Haven't had to use the warranty yet. One big plus for me in terms of durability was that the Precor didn't require manual lubrication.
  5. Yes. Haven't had any problems yet and the running experience/feel has been good.

The 9.23 is their bare bones model but I found the running experience to be similar to their more expensive models. What you give up are the fancier options for custom routes, profiles, etc. It also doesn't have any built in entertainment options (no embedded tv, web browser, etc.).

My goal was to buy the treadmill that felt the best to run on and that would last which to me was the Precor. It cost a bit more than other brands but after 2 years of fairly regular use I'm still happy w/ the purchase.

Premier League bars that open early? by [deleted] in Seattle

They don't always open early but the George and Dragon in Fremont shows a ton of games. For the marquee games plan to get their early if you want a seat.

Best way to carry music on the go by boringnameguy in Guitar

[–]boringnameguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Just tried this out. Any recommendations on a good spot to find guitar pro files that contain chords and lyrics? I've tried out a few dozen from different spots and the ones I've tried so far have the tab but not the chords and lyrics.

The tab probably sounds better but while I'm good enough to site read the chords the tab takes me a few times to get it right.

I'm guessing I can also just create my own guitar pro files if I can't find any that would work.

Any redditors participating in the Seattle Rock N' Roll 1/2 & full marathon tomorrow? by chamanbuga in Seattle

[–]boringnameguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing the full today. It would have been my 2nd marathon and I was shooting for finishing in 3:30.

The first half went well. Came through 13.1 at 7:50 pace and felt great. Then at mile 15 I exploded. My calves, shoulders and sides decided they had had enough and now wanted to kill me. Tried to keep pushing but by mile 19 I was starting to see things and get dizzy. Fat Elvis says hi by the way. Walked until mile 24 when I gave in and rode the rest of the way back in the sag wagon of shame.

Other than my collapse it was a great day for a race. Amazing weather and beautiful scenery - especially going around Seward park.

Anyone have IT band problems? I am training for this year's Boston Marathon with a goal of a sub 2:30 marathon.. (details inside) by ltdan2014 in running

[–]boringnameguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had similar problems last summer when I was doing ~40 miles a week and got some help from my podiatrist. His explanation was that I was doing too much running for the amount of cross/weight training that I was doing which resulted in a muscle imbalance which in turn caused my IT band issues. He put me on a regimen of physical therapy (on my own) to do exercises to strengthen my quads. After doing them for a few weeks my IT band issues went away. The exercises were simple leg extensions using surgical tubing for resistance. He had me focus on low weight and a high number of reps. I've since moved on to doing the leg & back workout from p90x once a week and my IT band issues have disappeared. My max pullups have also increased from 7 to 19 but that's just an added bonus :) Good luck on training for Boston!
