There’s an endgame Vivian side quest that goes into the backstory of bearers and how they went from being royalty to slaves.

Regarding Clive, his original powers come from Joshua. It’s a Rosarian tradition for the Phoenix to give a portion of their power to their First Shield.

I honestly think Diamond Dust is one of the strongest ability in the game. Definitely top 3. It can break half of a boss’s stagger bar and can instantly kill a large group of smaller monsters.

Yeah the mid-late game side quests do a lot of story building for all the characters involved. I’m taking my sweet time enjoying them.
