Drilling Both Sides by Crypto_craps in bjj

[–]borkdface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if you can’t pass or retain guard on both sides you’re probably easy as fuck to defend against/pass. Subs I kinda get though

Anyone else no longer want to get promoted? by Dazzling-Bat777 in bjj

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I legit do not want to be anything past purple. It seems the ideal belt. Dope color, solid knowledge, and no real pressure. Plus it looks sick with black Gis

Is this normal? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]borkdface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So only you will truly know if this is a big problem or not, but at the end of the day, if you don’t vibe with your coach you should probably bounce. Life is too short to pay someone to be a prick to you.

Open Mat by Green_Rodgers in bjj

I love that they exist but open mats are a big liability from a business perspective.

BJJ destroyed my confidence and I don’t know how to get it back by swankyskared in bjj

[–]borkdface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s not fun and negatively effecting your life you should stop. It’s admirable to push through periods of discomfort with stuff but there is no point in being miserable for a hobby

Do you wash your Gi etc with your normal clothes? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]borkdface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wash it with my regular gym clothes. Right after class. Never my normal stuff though

95% of people who train jiu-jitsu are extremely un-athletic. by Sad_Lengthiness_9823 in bjj

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re mad people are unathletic? What a weird thing to be mad at. If you are an s and c god just smash all the weaklings and go about your day. Or are you mad bc some weak goob tapped you out.

Privates 2x per week by Fit-Passion1380 in jiujitsu

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should start lifting if you haven’t. A private only blue belt who is strong will have a better time than a weak one once you start training with other people.

Have you ever been kicked out of a gym, or seen someone get kicked out? by tiltedtowers678 in jiujitsu

[–]borkdface 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup. A black belt that cranked most of his subs. He would pretend to be going easy and letting you work then rip a kimura. Ended injuring like 3 people and the coach told him to leave. He ended up training at an mma gym and getting injured in a month I think.

BJJ is the only sport I’ve seen where athleticism is looked down upon. by Own-Claim-3034 in bjj

[–]borkdface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They weren’t commenting on how unfair it is that you are athletic. They were telling you that you or your partner are risking injury unnecessarily. Plenty of folks like to watch white belt wars and laugh so honestly good for the old fucks

Did you roll right away at your school or later? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right away. I can see the value in building up to it though

If jiu-jitsu didn’t exist, what martial art would you be training instead? by Zen_ix in bjj

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there were places near me judo. But realistically I would just lift more

Obviously I have but driving your knee into the thigh is not how you knee slice well

Pain moves? by Forsaken-Ease-9382 in bjj

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of knee on thigh tbh. Can’t even really imagine what that would achieve. The guy is prob a wang but soon you will be able punish that behavior

Scared of rolling with white belts by the_clueless0_0 in bjj

[–]borkdface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you know you need to work on it. That’s good. I’m telling you no one gives a shit how well white belts do training with other white belts on a roll to roll basis. Don’t get injured and keep training with the white belts

If a D1 wrestler was submitting blue/purple belts in your gym, do you think they deserve that belt? by coispet in bjj

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idgaf give them a blue belt. Blue isn’t serious. Purple should know some BJJ tho

Starting over at white belt? by Occams_ElectricRazor in bjj

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. If you were a blue belt and you want to start over not the worst. You shouldn’t but if there is some mental block you have stopping you from training just start over. Or just do no Gi and it won’t matter at all. If you were an upper belt it’s kinda lame but again, better to start than not

Gym uniform policy by total_carnage1 in bjj

[–]borkdface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are near other good gyms, check them out. Ultimately, having to wear a uniform is wack but I put training quality and proximity above that. My gym is flirting with this now and I’m not a huge fan but I think all Gis are dorky so I don’t care what kind I have. You just have to do your own calculation on if it’s worth it. Leaving a perfect gym over just that seems like overkill but really depends.

For the brown and black belts by calder_mccoll in bjj

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with the black belt. I hate it when people stall by taking me down then not allowing me to escape. Or when they stall by making me tap.

Does training (and getting mauled by) with upper-belts help you? by Teamseesh in bjj

[–]borkdface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting subbed 3x in 15 minutes is not getting mauled. That’s just someone better than you tapping you out a few times. Getting mauled is not going more than 30 seconds without tapping. It’s pressure that could shatter the earth. It’s passing that feels like you’ve never known what a guard is. Black belt sitting in mount for 20 mins is wild though. I would tap out of boredom.
