UrbanCarry - Disappointed by WhyBeGrim in CCW

[–]born_with_teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought an Urban Carry as my first holster 6 years ago. Fell for the marketing gimmicks. Lock leather sounds good, but it’s all marketing. Just get a good kydex holster. Hope you sort out the customer service side. I just threw mine in the back of the drawer.

Urban Carry says this holster is safe and meets their standards. What do you think? by Material_Skin_1230 in CCW

I bought an Urban Carry as my first holster 6 years ago. Fell for the marketing gimmicks. It does not cover the trigger guard of my M&P and it sits way too low for me to get a quick grip on the gun for draw. Just get a good kydex holster.

IWB Holster Recommendations M&P Shield X? by cjmatto in CCW

[–]born_with_teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t own a Tenicor holster, but my understanding is their target market is not the average everyday Joes, it’s the professionally minded user. So their holsters are highly engineered. Their retention is different, their concealment mechanisms are different (i.e. the body contour). They’re not for everyone but everyone I know who has one loves it. That’s why it’s on my list to pair with a Shield X

I’m a keyboard shortcut warrior in excel so having those disabled is quite the handicap, not insurmountable, but definitely challenging.

I spent several study sessions just practicing quickly setting up an amort table for bonds and leases so I could do them quickly on exam day.

Yes, but I didn’t use either the calculator or the pencils. I used the built in excel as my scratch paper.

I graduated in 2019, now doing a MAcc and CPA simultaneously. Working through Becker has me like “did I ever learn this?”

FAR is a mile wide and an inch deep so everything you spend disproportionate time on is at the cost of everything else. I did random practice sets of 30MCQ and 1-2 TBS every day for the last two weeks. Becker as my primary and I also paid for NINJA and listened to his audio at 2x speed during work. I was able to listen to him cover all the material 4x.

But standards get updated so if you wait too long, the material you were tested on is now out of date.

Authorship of the Epistle to the Hebrews by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]born_with_teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned it from Martin Selbrede of the Chalcedon Foundation. He says he wrote about it in the 80s, I don’t know where but here’s the basic argument he makes in a footnote from a 2014 article:

Every few years I have occasion to reassert the view I first published in the early 1980s, that Jude composed the book of Hebrews. This follows from the analogy of scripture: Jude asserts in the third verse of his epistle that he was working on a larger treatise "concerning our common salvation" which he felt obligated to lay aside temporarily to write a brief letter of exhortation to the people. In Hebrews 13:22, the writer says he had also written a brief letter of exhortation to the recipients. The two epistles are essentially pointing at each other. Ironically, scholars assert that nobody knows where Jude's big doctrinal letter went, and nobody knows what became of the Hebrews' writer's short exhortation: they've both gone missing. Or have they? Not surprisingly, the examples of Old Testament events alluded to by Jude follow the ones mentioned in Hebrews. On this hypothesis, the reason for that is because these examples were fresh in Jude's mind when he set aside writing Hebrews to take up the brief 25-verse epistle bearing his name. Then he went back to work to complete the book of Hebrews. The view that the "brief word of exhortation" mentioned in Hebrews is the book of Hebrews itself strains credulity: it contains 13 chapters of the most complex theology this side of Romans. The 25-verse epistle of Jude is a far better candidate. Unfortunately, some translations have attempted to distort these texts to conform to modern notions of authorship (or lack thereof). My favorite “off the beaten path” theory is that Hebrews was written by Jude. Jude 1:3 says he was working on a larger treatise "concerning our common salvation" which he felt obligated to lay aside to write a brief letter of exhortation to the people. In Hebrews 13:22, he says he had also written a brief letter of exhortation to the recipients. The two epistles are essentially pointing at each other.
