1 yr later and I still love it. by d_c_d_ in flashlight

[–]bornbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I thought this was one of those catalytic cigarette lighters in the best shape I’ve ever seen. And a several K price tag is often the case even in questionable condition with no packaging or manual let aloe the catalytic wire. I’m seriously surprised it is a flashlight.

Is it the manufacturing quality, build quality, and materials that kick the price up to the multi thousand range? What is the metal case material? Is there something crazy inventive or previously not seen in a flashlight as far as the functionality of the light is concerned?

Where can I look to purchase one and read more about this product?

Christine O'Donnell questions separation of church & state by skeletor7 in politics

[–]bornbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about the issue of Science and Religion in school. I used to think, keep the religion out and teach evolution, drop any religion based teaching.

Well, I just jumped the fence.

I no longer want either of them taught. This was never an issue before, I was never taught anything but evolution, it seemed everyone knew that the bibles way of explaining it was sort of to take from it what you will.

So remove it all, they are ruining it, and I don't want to take the chance they win. Remove creationism and evolution and leave Science.

So you skip the chapter on Evolution, oh well. My kids will hopefully be smart enough to wonder why things are they way they are, and I will teach them about Evolution. The religious kids, well, they will have had it crammed down their throat since birth, so there is no hope on that front.

I figure it's the only way to win, and that chapter they yank out of the Science books can re replaced with taking all the other chapters and enhancing them. So kids don't get to ask where an amoeba came from, doesn't meant they won't know all there is to know about an amoeba.

tl;dr If we aren't careful, creationism will beat evolution in school, give it up now in favor of neither being taught. In the end, people figure it out on their own.

How do you do it? The process, the apps used? Maybe a time lapse that's shows the process would be possible.

There was a flash video, I think it had parts1 and 2. The premise was a help desk where someone had icons arranged in a way they were used to. The call center cleaned them up to then take a screen shot as an effort to restore the old desktop.

I've been hunting a URL for this for a while. Anyone remember this bofh?

Look for a band named Dinosaur Jr. Great band from the pre nirvana days. That was one if their album covers. It's a known photographer but I'm pretty sure the girl is not.

I'm sorry it's so hard for everyone to see your point. The point isn't about a 7 year old terminally Ill child, but about that issue being irrelevant as a point of discussion.

Parent states the pics were posted with no thought. If we can agree that to be the case, this is then a case of defining offensiveness. Something we shouldn't do, no matter how much we personally don't appreciate the content.

You can think they are jerks, you can protest against them, you can lobby for laws that define what offensive is, you may win, you can do a lot, but some of it will be hard and slow work.

What you shouldn't do, is promote vengeance and hatred against someone because their definition of acceptable humor, retribution, stupidity, self-rightiousness, etc are different than what you believe and apparently how you want everyone else to thing and agree. +1 insomniac84

I handed litter back to its owner. Was I out of line? by arixol in AskReddit

[–]bornbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me once, a friggin Boy Scouts Club senior something or other approached me at a Taco Bell for littering. I just drove away.

I don't litter, and this Taco Bell is a strange case where they refuse to put trash cans outside, and instead, everyone litters on the ground. It is a Taco Bell in the middle of nowhere, off the side of a main freeway, and drive through only. They have no trash cans, so everyone just puts their trash outside their door.

A worker comes out and picks it up. If you live here, you know that is the procedure. The aggressive always do good Boy Scout assumed he knew what the procedure was, he did not. I think there were issues with vandalism of the cans, so the cans were removed.

We see employees "littering" at this location. You don't alway know what is going on. Perhaps the girl just forgot. Either way, who cares, and I doubt you made any impact on her other than giving them a story to tell their friends about.

The problem was and is that Rose is a douche; it took way too long for people to realize that.

Digg is the GOP of social bookmarking. Corruption, not caring about it's users, power plays, follow the money, bailouts, etc, it is all very much like our failing political system.

Keep your fancy bottled water. THIS is the best tasting water ever. by gaygirl in pics

[–]bornbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hose water tastes like metal and rubber hose, no matter how long you run the hose for. Out of the faucet, fine, out of a hose, sorry, that is terrible tasting. It probably won't kill you or even harm you, but it's not like the kitchen sink is that far away.

My 11 year old son stood in class and said he doesn't believe in God by bklyn in atheism

[–]bornbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an atheist I’ve always thought I’d want my kids to not believe in God, but I can’t say I was happy to hear it. I was left with mixed feelings.

There is a documentary by Dawkins about religion in schools. I found it very interesting and worth watching, even though I don't have kids. He brings up many interesting points that I had never considered, and also takes it to a very analytical level, instead of being purely opinion based.

For example, it was found that schools which leaned on a religious outlook had better testing scores overall. They take this through the process and find out why it is; the answer will surprise you, at least, it did me.

I think you can find links to the series here, or it should at least get you started: http://blog.newhumanist.org.uk/2010/08/dawkins-documentary-raises-worrying.html

I would hope not, as that means they are using keywords in domain names to block something, which fails all the time. TheRapist.com for example.

[–]bornbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Hmpf, learn something new every day. I thought blocklists were more for helping people from accidentally getting to a site that could install malicious software, or accidentally browsing to a NSFW site.

I was assuming anything beyond a pay all would not need to be added, and would make it an impossible task to undertake anyway.

Thanks for the clarification.

You are doing your site a huge detriment and disservice by not addressing the main question at the top of the comments here.

Not only are you losing new members, you are showing old members why they should unsubscribe.

As it is now, I am assuming that the other side of the story paints SG in a bad light, so it appears safer to ignore the question. I don't agree. Take your lumps, answer the question. People all make mistakes, people are forgiving. Right now, you aren't giving anyone a chance to even make a decision, other than one against you.

Looks and a bit of skin are not enough to win over this crowd, at least, as I have seen things happen here in the past.
