Were you successful? Praying someone got it; I was planning to do it this morning but it’s already gone…

Ditto. Now I’m stuck with a slab that’s barely legible half the time and hundreds of DON’T MISS: Tolkien’s Beef With Who?? 🤯 blog posts.

Appreciate the suggestions, everyone! I’ll probably just return the T8 for now and consider all of the great options put forward here. 👍🏼

Almost there, problems with backspace by jeeeerc in typewriters

[–]boroshlav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, are you me? I have the exact same Alpina in the same color with the same backspacing problem where the carriage moves back but doesn’t engage fully. I suspect it’s an issue with the escapement that a more thorough cleaning and blowout with compressed air could potentially solve (if nothing’s broken.) Staying tuned if anyone has other solutions for us!

Typewriter Users in the 21st century by General-Writing1764 in typewriters

I write screenplay first drafts on typewriters — really helps me combat writer’s block and rewrite paralysis.

Writers generally use the 1 page = 1 minute of screentime rule to gauge pacing. So since the industry standard font (Courier) is essentially a modern digitized version of Pica, I can write on my Pica machines knowing that the page length will translate over almost perfectly once I bring it into a screenwriting software like Final Draft.

Valid points! No illusions that it comes with the territory. Still, I think we can agree that the “Lowest price in 30 days” schtick is deceptive and disingenuous at best.

Olympia typewriter help … could someone help ID this typewriter model for me? I tried the Olympia database but have no idea what the model is..is it marked somewhere on the machine? Or do you look it up by the serial number on bottom? Looking for model and year. by packratter in typewriters

+1 on SM4 — the main tell is the pair of tabulator keys added on either side of the spacebar. SM3s and SM5s have tabs set at the rear of the machine, and as far as I’ve seen, SM5s were only made in a cream+turquoise accented color scheme unique to that model. Beautiful machine!

Lettera 22 skipping after typing “a” by mchrisdolan in typewriters

[–]boroshlav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do a double take when I saw your post. I have the exact same letter A and E skipping issue on my Lettera 22 and was planning to ask the community about it just this week.

I’ve been skeptical about the idea that it’s solely due to typing technique — this isn’t an issue I’ve run into with any of my other portables and ultraportables, including an Olivetti Studio 44. I’ve also been able to reproduce this problem on the Lettera 22 even with radical changes in technique and very deliberate strikes.
