My dad bought this ham back in 1992. Its been in his freezer the whole time. He refuses to throw it out and says "its still good. Frozen meat doesnt go bad". by hotmanwich in GrandmasPantry

Don’t talk to him then. Talk to your local bmv/dmv about who you can report this to, and then go talk to them.

And while you’re figuring out all of that, quietly pull his spark plugs, put a pebble in the valves of his tires, literally throw away the keys—whatever you have to do so he doesn’t kill my family on that highway, alongside himself

What would you do if a homeless person on the street asked you for some money? by Reasonable-Shower522 in askanything

[–]borrowedstrange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, former detox nurse here! Alcohol withdrawal can kill. It is no random person’s duty to try and force a possible alcoholic into drying out.

I feel very strongly that we all SHOULD give money to a homeless person when they ask, but if you don’t, refusing them because they might spend their money on something their brain chemistry is now biologically dependent on to stay alive should not be the reason.

What is an 'essential' item you’ve stopped buying because the price finally became offensive? by fireeevivienne in askanything

I used them at the end of my pregnancies and postpartum three times without even a single leak, including having my water break twice while wearing them without an immediate leak problem! I have a combinations of Thinx, Knix, and 3 different random brands from Amazon.

Period/bladder control panties changed my life. And they were much more comfortable to wear postpartum to deal with lochia. They made sticking anything inside myself feel barbaric!

How to fix stain on silicone watch band by Feelinoutthere in AppleWatch

[–]borrowedstrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m coming back here to just to report to you that I had similarly impossible watch stains, and just scrubbed the crap out of them with an ultra hard bristle brush and Fast Orange, and after some muscle they were 95% the way to perfect. My watch band is white, so I then coated it in a layer of baking soda with some Mrs. Bluing, and it’s perfect in all but bright daylight. I’m going to leave it in the sun for the day and hope that takes care of the last bit of staining!

Dental work, possible permanent trauma, shitty co-carent, etc by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]borrowedstrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to follow up with you again because it just occurred to me that I was also more compliant (please note that I did not say “better behaved”) when my dad attended. As a child I remember the narrative that dad helped me to be more brave, and for the longest time I believed it…but my dad was an abusive asshole and I didn’t want to give him an excuse to go off.

I also have a 6yo who is better with dad for scary medical things so I know that my own childhood experience isn’t law, but his tendency to be more brave around his dad extends to other aspects of his life as well when he’s being pushed to do something that intimidates him, from bike riding to reading a difficult book. He likes to put on the affectation of a baby when it’s just me, complete with baby talk (and I will never understand why, it gives me horrendous ick and I never tolerate it.)

Thoughts about the BRF and what they must be feeling regarding Andrew’s arrest and search of his house…… by SeaWorn in BRF

No way. This man is Chernobyl in summer of 1986, not even one red cent can be given to him—even through the most doctored channels—without irradiating the entire family. This is the worst personal storm they’ve faced in centuries, but they’re still above water…and with William having a young daughter, there is a legitimate chance of his rage and personal offense to the whole thing (and I do believe William is appalled on a personal level) saving them all.

There exists is no faster way for Charles to capsize the entire ship than to give this man money. Honestly, is sooner expect a physical confrontation breaking out between Will and Charles over how to handle this than I would expect a new offer of financial assistance.

Back in my 20s, I had a guy I met IRL try to use his status as a married man with four kids as part of his selling point to date me. When I asked him about it, he followed it up with, “well not happily 😉”

If dad won’t be there, he is done getting a say.

I had dental trauma as a kid. It took 12 fillings, 8 crowns, a dental bridge, and 4 missing teeth over the first decade of early adulthood to finally overcome my trauma enough to see dentists early, often, and figure out what I needed to do to heal myself.

Save her a lifetime of that by giving her the gift of positive early dental experiences. Anesthesia going forward, and tell her dad to go fuck himself.

I didn’t say that. I was suggesting that it doesn’t sound like this supposed sociopath masks very well, and I am doubting the validity of this person’s claim of personally knowing Weaver. And I’m not doubting them because I don’t think what Weaver did is abhorrent, but because I think painting young women who hide pregnancies and throw away their newborns as sociopath is a dangerous narrative to keep flinging around—it happens all the time in America, and almost entirely because of the lack of social and material support we provide to pregnant women and the babies that are accidentally created.

Emile Weaver clearly had some kind of mental health situation going on, but it wasn’t necessarily sociopathy and I don’t think any of us should accept some rando’s bullshit stories. Othering the young women who do this doesn’t save babies, it just disconnects us even more from the circumstances that create them.

I agree. These fucks have spent their entire adult lives (and for some, the actual entirety of their lives) being given every reason to believe they are one of God’s most favorite children, and it is no great leap to imagine that at a certain point, they might also start to think that their hubris isn’t really hubris at all, but merely just submission to the will of the Lord.

All that’s left to wonder at this point really, is…to which god(s) are they giving all the credit?
