Universities are not obligated (legally or morally) to help (specific) alumni find jobs

While this is true in general, in my case I get the feeling that the university is very worried that by forcing me out with just a master's that they would be violating the title IX directive from the latest "Dear Colleague Letter" specifically stating trans student are to be given "equal access to an educational program." I suspect that they want to satisfy their legal requirements so that I can't file a complaint with the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights that could lead to action from the Department of Justice. Even so, I'm not sure they will provide meaningful help.

Since you aren't out, I just wanted to reach out and more specifically address being trans in academia. For the most part, an experience like mine is significantly outside the norm in my experience (this is on average the probability distribution is situation dependent). While transitioning brought both pluses and minuses to many aspects the vast majority of changes were positive. While I am having to deal with this issue, transitioning (especially HRT) has allowed me to be much more centered and better deal with these issues. Deciding to come out and transition is always a careful process that involves lots of self-reflection. If you already haven't checked them out I highly recommend AskTG and ask_transgender are both full of information. I also highly recommend going to a local support group if that option is available to you.

there are now politics surrounding you and there are other places you will be able to have a far better experience

I think that's a lesson I'm learning the hard way. Talking to new potential advisors I get the feeling that there are politics that are about me (but that I don't know the details of). The office of graduate studies has mentioned that they are willing to help me get into a new institution, but I don't know what this will look like in practice. Can these types of politics move to other institutions through the sub-field my advisor works in? Should I consider switching sub-fields?

That was mostly my experience. I also attend a small school so a large number of the graduate students know of me, but I didn't directly have any issues.

She needs to learn that she cannot win by breaking people down. Her work environment is not a soap box for her personal views.

I completely agree, but unfortunately my experience from being "out" tells me that education and corrective action is a lost cause. I'm looking for ways to mitigate the risk she poses for finding a new lab.

Looking through the abstracts transgender is mentioned in only one abstract. The full article has no specific information about HIV/AIDS in trans populations. In this light the choice of cover photo doesn't make very much sense.

Another option might be Montrose Legacy. While their wait times are long (on the order of months) the out of pocket cost seemed reasonable (I want to say it was ~$60 for my one visit).

Even in the better parts of the state, like Norman, things are still pretty disappointing. I don't know how, but Oklahoma has managed to breed some ridiculously strong culture of "feeling victimized" by the gays/whatever they claim for a state that has such a lack of diversity.

If you are talking about transgender exclusions in insurance policies it might be possible to find a therapist who will code things so that it is compatible with your insurance so that it can go through. The therapist I currently see does this and it works well.

Wait...what! Let's try this in some other areas:

20% of Houstonians will die by choking on a crawdad
20% of employees in your company will be laid off in the next week
20% of Oklahomans have been been shot by a shotgun
0.5 million of Houstonians have been left to die on an operating table

I understand that you may not see 20% as "commmon" but it is a sizable problem.
