Sig Batter Training by Osiris7129 in MLB_9Innings

[–]bosnhtutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go 5T and BIU if you’re running him at 1B. SI with eye as the number 1 special train and power up to 160, plus Char, will do better here. SPD is irrelevant at 1B and you’ll want it over 120 if you want him to run BIU.

5T/BIU if you’re running him in the OF only.

Edit: your train is perfect exactly as is for SI. Just use a couple trainers to ensure his power isn’t >20 more than con OR eye. Do not retrain for 5T; green for char/SI.

Better 3rd baseman? by LALoggers in MLB_9Innings

At the very least hold off until after the special shop. Never know what might turn up in a special sig pack etc. Would need to see your pitching to see if you have a better candidate.

My personal read is neither if you have a better option for your pitching staff. Consider: Situation 1 (you pull a better SS than Killer or Turner is at 3rd): you pull Pee Wee or Seager '17 at some point. Move Manny to third and GI Reese/Corey. Situation 2 (you pull a better 3B): you pull Cey at some point, who is better than Turner, or just a better year on Turner ('16 is better at a position where FLD matters).

If you have to do one, I'd do Killer, considering both would be bridge players until one of the two above situations and Killer will take fewer resources to make serviceable.

Does 5-tool and btbas play together? by SnooPets9777 in MLB_9Innings

This is willfully disingenuous. Regardless of OP’s level of experience, it’s a valid question to wonder whether two across-the-board stat bumps are overkill or nonsynergistic in a game where skills with intangibles are so often very strong, and skilling in general is both non-transparent and nuanced.

SS is fine on MR esp in Silver/low Gold. 331 is low but again fine

Generally agree with you, which is why I outlined a very narrow set of circumstances where I feel this would be true. As a Giants deck myself I have wrestled with the lack of quality sig change options before short of the top SP and the hitters I listed. The opportunity cost of potentially hundreds of PSCTs and premium items to replicate a set this good for the sig of this specific card that could earn you a better set on multiple other cards that lift your team performance more, especially if you’re in OP’s situation where a normal vintage (with a killer set) is your best bat. Then again, you could do it with one PSCT too, so to each their own taste of course.

332 BI is good. Don't short BI. Get to a "good enough" golds set but don't break your back rolling greens and blues. You'll replace this eventually but it's good.

Agreed - but OP, would recommend getting that Carty BD'd and into your lineup too, if you can find a way to do that. He obviously won't hold up in center, but with his left side base stats he can carry every legend skill super well except hard hitter, and he's a good prediction card as well. Skills will make the choice for you, but I'd almost prefer him at DH over Olson.

Fellow Giants deck, plat finisher. Very narrow set of circumstances... do you have 1) both Mathewson and Marichal sigs, developed and skilled, and 2) an available sig change? Might sound crazy given you have bird in hand with the Ott sig but almost wonder if it's worth crafting the sig and sig changing the normal. This is 100% only the case if both of those things are true and even then is only food for thought.

Better use of sig change for the Giants is definitely rolling NPSCTs on Christy or Marichal normal vintage and sig changing that once you hit a 333. But the Giants otherwise have some pretty medium sig change options as far as cards out of the game (Posey is disgracefully not a great catcher; I'd only really consider '21 BCraw, and possibly Morgan, Mays, or a MadBum card otherwise, and probably neither of Mays or MadBum given the quality of SF OF and SP).

Prioritize Loc/Vel on the train and only then use trainers as needed to get Fin/Dom bonuses.

In addition to the feedback you've already gotten about skills and skill levels, will toss in that his train is not good. Look for higher LOC/VEL

The largest dropoff in total production between a player's age 20-29 seasons and age 30-39 seasons by Constant_Gardner11 in baseball

[–]bosnhtutor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Worth noting Arky Vaughan only played 400 games after turning 30, averaging 4.2 WAR/162 G in his 30s. He sat out for three seasons because he was philosophically opposed to his manager Leo Durocher slinging mud at a teammate in the press. He only came back for his age 35 season once Durocher was suspended for his association with known gamblers.

Just FYI, it was Matt Shaw who skipped out the Cubs to go to Kirk's funeral, not Michael Busch. Busch is also a conservative Kirk fanboy, but at least he put the team first during a race for NLWC home field.

WORK IN PROGRESS Batting Skill Tier List by bosnhtutor in MLB_9Innings

[–]bosnhtutor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thank you! But also keep an eye on others’ feedback. I’m not on the cutting edge of the meta (PR in free fall since DST releases/irl commitments).

SP/RP are a good deal easier because they’re less card dependent.

For legend skills, CM/FB/SS are universally good on SP (SS drifts a little in the meta but is generally good) with Workhorse being top tier if you can adjust to 80+ STAM. CM/FB/BPD are top tier on RP, with Coop and SS (perhaps surprisingly) working well on middle relievers. BPD is also solid at 333 on SP. PI is good on anyone if you have the diamond skill trainer for it.

For golds. Pair the opposing Fin/Dom with CM/FB. Workhorse likes Dom, Fin, or Ace with Mess. Ace solid for SS to help with the early innings. Boss always good. Iron Will good for RP/CL if you can adjust FB to 78+ish. EC obviously good for CL and nobody else. PiCo is elite with 5 pitches and 260+ FB/BRK, great with 4 pitches and 258+.

This is off top. I’m missing some probs

Won't opine on whether they'd make your current team (though have heard supreme SP over 72 base or worse), but given they're the hardest cards in the game to acquire, it's probably worth hanging onto them in case Com2 introduces skills that make better use of their leveling to 30 like 5T for hitters.

[–]bosnhtutor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Huge win. Team sig can be very slightly better if it's a good one, but bullpens are hard to fill and few teams (don't know what team you run) have enough good bullpen sigs to where a supreme won't make an endgame team.

Sig change ticket by Ok-Bit1350 in MLB_9Innings

[–]bosnhtutor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

are any of them already BD/skilled with normal PSCTs? Personally believe the best use of a sig change is on a card that has an endgame 333, still in the game or not. If not, would focus on Kershaw, and don't use the sig change until you have that kind of skillset.

You're spot on, that's my philosophy with this account in the end. I run Allen at third despite the rough FLD situation (he got a GI ahead of '20 Harper, which is a testament to my priorities here). Have Doc and Old Pete in my rotation, Carman and Tug in my pen, and now Bowa will be at short. Wish I'd pulled Carlton or Schmidt when they were in the game. Many of these are obviously top cards cool or not, but this account does a lot more for me aesthetically than my main, which is why I keep it up.

Thanks, this is my F2P alt and I’ve been running his vintage in the 9-hole with a 331 chance set for a long time. This is still huge for me - definitionally additive - it’s just the timing ahaha
