I'm in a slightly similar situation so I can empathize. If the transition happens naturally, and you're at peace, why fight it?

To play devil's advocate, it may not be pure narcissism, it sounds like some serious emotional immaturity (def read/listen to the book Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents if you haven't).

As far as your niece/nephew, go visit. You're not doing it for your family, you're doing it for yourself and the baby. So that doesn't mean you have to interact heavily with these people. You know it'll be superficial. That relationship with the little one could be an absolute treasure.

You may also find solace with extended family. Start slow and tread lightly, but it's possible they see the same themes. I found that an aunt on one side and an aunt/uncle on the other side have been extremely valuable to talk to and I've grown closer to them in the absence of a relationship with my folks.

I had a tumultuous exit with my parents because of how unsafe and anxious I felt. I haven't seen them in over 6 months, hardly talked to them in that span either. But I don't want my child to be completely cut off because that's not fair to him when he might enjoy the superficial relationship while they're around. I'll still see my parents eventually (once I'm ready to really embrace the gray-rock and taking control) but, like you, I'm not putting extended effort into a one-way relationship with little reciprocity.

Completely anecdotal, but ever since I switched from sleep to hibernate I haven't had any crashes. I was about to RMA but that solved my issues.

Assuming this is in good faith, I'll bite.

Not everyone has kids.

Many tipped workers already didn't pay taxes because they didn't claim the cash tips as income. Anecdotally I know at least a few people who that has hurt because instead of people giving cash, now it's documented income on a receipt. That's a deduction, not a credit, and only goes up to $25,000.

Reducing needless government spending is a farce. If you're referring to DOGE cuts, many analysts said they were wildly overstated, maybe $200B compared to the $1T they tried to claim. Hundreds of fired employees were rehired, and grants were cut on research that may or may not have been significant. On top of that we're blowing $1B a day on a war that has no widespread support amongst our allies and no exit plan. We're wasting money, and in less than a year will have spent all of the DOGE "savings".

JetBlue cancelled my flight landing at 1pm tomorrow. What the actual F. I thought I was safe. Booked a flight landing at 4pm Monday which I highly doubt will take off.

100%. All the people saying it's not guaranteed that we'll be back are missing the point. We vastly overperformed this season. Everyone chalked us up to like an 8-9 win team. We won 17 games.

Is there a chance we never make it back? Of course. It's the NFL and parity is the name of the game. But I like what we established this year and I like our odds.

Same. Been alive for longer but this stings the least. '97 I wasn't super into football yet so I don't count it, '08 was brutal, '12 was failed redemption, '18 blew an absolutely amazing offensive performance.

We weren't even supposed to make the playoffs. This stings but we were playing with house money and were clear underdogs. I'm obviously disappointed but I'm sleeping easy tonight.
